Do not stay here! I selected a dog friendly room through hotels.com. We pulled up to see that the other clientele had us questioning our choice. We hiked all day, grabbed pizza for dinner and then arrived to check in behind a man named Dale that took forever between going to his car to search for cash, asking many questions about where to get steak etc. I waited patiently while really having to the bathroom and hoping my pizza would still be semi-warm. The amount of strange decor in the room like a bunch of fake dusty flowers in a Texan boot had me wake up with a headache, but the river was nice. The free breakfast was some packaged pastries, but still fair enough. However, a few hours later the front desk man called screaming at me so loud, my husband could hear it although it wasn't on speaker and we were sitting outside across from each other at a windy table. Rob was yelling that we weren't in an animal friendly room and that there were signs all over saying that (not true), and that he was charging my card $200. I calmly stated that my husband is a disabled Afghanistan veteran, we have a service animal, but we still always select dog friendly hotels and rooms. Rob then screamed that we were trying to “ruin his business and we’re blacklisted.” Our dog had left no trace, it was just that a cleaning lady had seen us leaving. Although we shouldn’t be charged one, I would have gladly paid a pet fee, instead Rob charged my card an additional $200 screamed that we were “blacklisted,” that I was “talking in circles” and hung up on me. I am a flight attendant that travels often, staying in dozens of hotels per month and I have never had anything close to this poor of customer service from a hotel. I am sure if he lost his cool this quickly with me (speaking calmly to him), it happens often. Don’t waste your money and/or risk the hassle of...
Read moreI agree with other reviewers who mention that this feels more like a motel than a hotel, especially when you consider the amenities and the overall condition of the property. That being said, for a place in the heart of Ouray, it is incredibly comfortable. One of the standout features for me was the room, which had two king-size beds. It’s rare to find a hotel that offers kings instead of the usual queens, so this was a pleasant surprise and added a lot of comfort to our stay. The decor is a Texas cowboy rustic theme, which fits the vibe of the town well, and gives the place a bit of charm.
The view from the back of the property is also a big highlight. You can sit back, relax, and enjoy the peaceful sight and sound of the river flowing right behind the hotel. It’s the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. However, on the downside, the room could have used a bit more attention to cleanliness and upkeep. The carpet was somewhat dirty, and since it’s wall-to-wall carpeting, it stood out. Some of the decor, like the lamp in our room, was outdated or worn; the lampshade was partially torn, which detracted from the otherwise cozy atmosphere.
The front desk staff deserves a mention as well—they were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made our stay more enjoyable. As for breakfast, it was pretty basic and mostly pre-packaged supermarket items: donuts, bagels, bread, cereal, and frozen burritos. While not gourmet, it’s something to start your day with. Overall, considering the location, the warm hospitality, and the charming rustic feel, this place is a good option if you’re not expecting modern luxury. It offers comfort and a...
Read moreEven after sending out a lot of information about the measures they claim to be taking to prevent the spread of Covid, we arrived to a guest lobby PACKED FULL of unmasked employees loudly celebrating the end of the season. If this was not in the midst of a pandemic, I wouldn't have enjoyed our stay much at all anyway. The room was crowded, very outdated, and was even somewhat dirty (significant amount of dust and cobwebs). Just stay somewhere else in town—I'd recommend closer to the main business district.
Edit to respond: Thank you for the reply. While we did check in at about 2:45, we called to ensure it would be okay to come early. Per posted hours, the lobby was open to guests (currently staying there or just checking in) and the unmasked employees were not separated, so the gathering was not "private" — the group was immediately next to the front desk where guests were waiting. I understand having an end-of-season event, but the way it was done was totally inappropriate. A couple lines from an email about COVID measures supposedly taken by Hot Springs Inn: "Limited Lobby Access: The lobby will be open from 8:00 am – 9:00 pm. Please practice social distance at all times. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Please bring your PPE (especially face masks) with you when you travel to Ouray. Our lobby and many stores and restaurants require face masks before you will be allowed to enter." The fact is this should not have occurred directly in an area that was actively...
