I stayed five nights at the red roof plus (April 27th -May 2). It was the best deal on Priceline for the number of days I stayed in Philly. My room was clean other than roach painted behind the door and the yellowish sheets supposed to be white. My issue was not with the room, it was with the cleaning service and the front office and the lack of communication.
When checking in, I saw on the wall that a cleaning service is only available for stays longer than three days. I was alright with that however they only gave us towels for one day. The next day, we ask for towels, but the cleaning staff was gone for the day. The next morning, we had to track down the cleaning staff and ask. The lady was nice after explaining to me that I needed to speak to the office for more towels and cleaning the room while we were out. She did right my name and room number on a piece of paper on a clipboard and said she would deliver them after 11 am. 11 am came around and in fear of the staff leaving for the day again, my husband walked around the rooms and found the lady. He was able to get towels for another night.
On the third day, we were surprised when returning to our room. The room was not cleaned. and the garbage was not taken out. Also, we had no clean sheets or towels. So we walked down to the office to speak to them about the situation. We were told to speak to the manager in the morning.
On the fourth day, we went to the office to speak to someone who was not the manager. She told us that since Covid, they do not go in the rooms anymore. I advised that our stay was five days and that the room needed to be cleaned and that we need new towels. The lady apologized for the towel and took us to the laundry room and brought us out fresh towels. She then told us to speak to the manager in the morning. That day, we went downtown to the museum and to explore. We went by a convenience store and that is when I decided to purchase cleaning supplies and clean our room myself.
On the last day, we checked out at about 10 am. During check-out, I spoke to the manager and told him about our experience. He told me that he will send my complaint to someone and they should get back to me. I asked for a case number, he advised me that it would be in an email sent to me. He also stated I should receive compensation for the incident.
Needless to say, I never received an email or a phone call. I would not recommend this Inn. I know you pay for what you get but I have stayed in red roof inns in the past and I never have been treated this...
Read moreMy husband and I flew into the Philly area and were staying for a few nights, so we figured this hotel relatively near the airport would be convenient. We got there a little early (I believe check-in was at 4, and we were there around 3:15), and walking up to the hotel office, there was a homeless man and woman sitting outside it, and the man asked us if we had any cigarettes... We went inside and the front desk had a closed sign (even though it was the middle of the day and there was a woman actually sitting right there at it...?) and the woman told us that no rooms were available yet and we'd have to wait until 4. A few minutes to 4, everyone RUSHED into the office to check in (the homeless man and woman got there first), we were second because we'd been parked in front waiting for almost an hour, and our experience in the office was...uncomfortable. The homeless woman was checking in and was clearly on some heavy drugs. She kept dropping things and was struggling to even pick them up off the floor, and she could barely sign the hotel paperwork, and the woman at the front desk was very unprofessional, rolling her eyes the entire time and making comments to her coworker about the two homeless people that were for some reason checking into this hotel? The whole thing just made me extremely uncomfortable. We checked in next, and I was already extremely skeptical of staying in this hotel by this point, but when we went to our room and walked in, although it was passably clean it absolutely STANK of stale cigarette smoke. Not like someone stayed in there once and smoked, like people have been smoking constantly in there for years (keep in mind this hotel specifies that it's NON-SMOKING.) We specifically chose a non-smoking hotel because even the smell of cigarette smoke gives me a headache, so there was no way I could have stayed in that room even if I'd wanted to. There are no hallways - the room doors are open to the outside, and there were kids running around screaming and playing. It was all just too much. I felt so nervous and unsafe and uncomfortable, we just went right back to our car and left, and found another hotel. I don't care how "cheap" this place is, it's apparently where drugged homeless people stay and no one should stay here. Please don't listen to the positive reviews, because we believed them and then ended up being out hundreds of dollars because our reservation couldn't be cancelled, but it was worth it to stay somewhere else where we actually felt safe and...
Read moreDriving distance from airport. One option for Expedia itineraries when bundling flights and hotels. Walking distance from a Denny's. Generally clean room.
Thick partition between guests and folks behind counter in office. Bulletproof glass? Transaction takes place through sliding drawer, like a bank or late night gas station, during day. Requires ID and the card with which the reservation was held. Seemingly offline ATM machine in office May 2021.
Indescribably loud patrons throughout entire night including one Harley that repeatedly revved and circled the lot for hours; one couple smoking at their open door, screaming obscenities at each other while their very young children played in the lot and the breezeway until midnight; one car that sat diagonally, with lights on, facing windows and blocking traffic, blasting heavily percussed music for about 45 minutes; one woman yelling at an employee about compensation for a non-working TV with said employee telling her to get her stuff and get out (manager?); two late night, possibly drunk, young ladies leaning directly on my window and having a full laugh-fest of conversation about their night (2am-ish); hotel guests entertaining non-guest visitors near their doors, but outside and loudly until it began raining... conversations ranging from plain chat to hollering non-stop obscenities.
Bare floors, fake wood. Tub surrounds installed sloppily. Paper thin walls. Paper thin ceiling. Alarm clock that, while not at all set, lets out a range of static noises come 6:30 a.m. Toilet runs.
