Negatives:
2 lamps/hair dryer didn’t work. Bathroom light buzzed when turned on.
Mystery stains. Looked like smeared blood was on the fitted sheet.
Stained loveseat. Shower curtain looks like it’s torn up by cats
Put in a second floor adjoining room even though first floor was requested and guaranteed upon booking. WiFi was so slow it made it impossible to use my laptop.
During the checkout process the housekeeper who cleaned our room(I believe her name was terry or Kerry) confirmed our room number and then immediately rushed to get her expected tip for the room. She was VERY unprofessional and looked like she just rolled out of bed. I stay at a lot of hotels and I’ve never seen a more unprofessional housekeeper. It’s upsetting to see a housekeeper with such poor hygiene.
We had called a couple days before our check in dates just to check room rates. Cindy answered the phone. She was extremely rude. She seems to hate her job and clearly it shows. We were asked to wait because she had another guest waiting to be helped. Which is fine. However she could’ve said it better than “hold on. There’s a guy in front of me”. VERY unprofessional. She proceeded to help this guest with us on the other end of the phone. We heard everything!!! What should have been a simple phone conversation, turned into an unwelcoming, discouraging, condescending, rude, and uncomfortable interaction. We almost didn’t book but decided to give the benefit of the doubt with the hope that Cindy was the only bad desk associate.
Positive: We were pleasantly surprised when greeted at check in. Patty was very polite and professional. Speedy check in. And patty answered all of our questions with a smile. Later on when we called down to complain about the mystery stains, patty apologized and offered to bring up new sheets immediately. We were already headed out so we just picked them up at the desk but the offer was much appreciated.
Applebee’s is walking distance so we were able to get dinner easily.
Coffee, juices, and individually wrapped items are still available for breakfast.
Guest keys go directly into a sanitizing bowl upon checkout. Darlene was extremely nice and professional. Speedy checkout.
Room overall was mostly clean. The bed was very comfortable (besides the mystery stains) Our room was very quiet and near an exit which was very convenient. A nice break from the COVID 19 panic however, housekeepers attention to detail could majorly improve.
Overall a very nice place to stay. Staff is all extremely nice and helpful at all hours of the night. Breakfast area is beautiful and I’m sure would have been very good if a full breakfast was served.
If ever in the area we will stay again just because of patty and darlenes wonderful customer service. However we will be requesting a room not cleaned by...
Read moreVery interesting stay. The evening front desk lady was very business like and not friendly. She wasn't rude either, but after seeing a couple of the other reviews, I can understand how some people could be turned off by her. The morning person was much different- Very energetic and friendly, and seemed like the person to go out of their way for you. This was especially good being that I was leaving the hotel at 4am each morning and having a friendly face in the morning was nice.
I was put on the second floor, and I was unaware that this facility does not have an elevator. Normally I would not complain, but as I suffer from neuropathy from cancer, this was a bit of a challenge going up and down the steps with a suitcase.
The room was well decorated and clean, but after the second night (I stayed for 4 days) I soon realized that the walls and floor seem to be paper thin. For a couple of the nights I was awoken several times by loud talking from outside the room. As my room was located over the entryway, this may have even been guests checking in. But getting woken up at 1:45am and again at 2:15am due to loud talking was not a good experience.
This combined with extremely poor quality beds led to a very poor sleeping experience for the week. The bed felt like I was lying on plywood, and seems like they have well exceeded their life expectancy. This combined with extreme divots in the bed- the first night, I was rolling over as I was falling asleep, only to be startled because it felt like I was falling off the bed. When I suddenly stopped, I realized I was still over a foot away from the edge, and that I had fallen into the divot that hundreds of people had formed in the bed. I ended up having to sleep creatively this week, finding various positions to counteract the divot, and on the final night actually sleeping on the couch in the room as it had more cushioning than the bed.
The breakfast was nearly non-existent, with grab bags of bland snacks that they handed out.
As I slept very poorly the entire week, and that I will be returning to Dunkirk next week for travel, I directed our corporate travel to set me up with Clarion in town instead for next week. Here is to hoping for a more comfortable sleeping experience at Clarion that won't cause me to have to sleep on a...
Read moreWe stayed here because of its location. The price was high but the pictures on the website looked OK. When we arrived we found the large couch was really very small. The bed's mattress was very well used. It should have been replaced well before we arrived. Our no smoking room had housed smokers. When I mentioned these issues to the desk clerk I was told this is a no-smoking hotel. I asked how this Best Western could justify their $249 room price. She said it's the weekend. I asked to speak to the manager. The clerk said he was around but she didn't know where he/she was. I asked her to have the manager call the room. She said she would. We never made contact with the manager.
Next morning's breakfast was a disappointment. (When we checked in the previous evening a man was placing bags of breakfast items on the floor near the entrance. This included milk cartons. When we left for dinner an hour later, tomorrow's breakfast was still on the floor.) When we got back from dinner the breakfast stuff was gone. Breakfast sandwiches (eggs, cheese, a breakfast meat) were promised. The people leaving the breakfast area as we arrived said they had been there over 30 minutes and had not seen the sandwiches. We asked about the sandwiches and were told "the DIY waffles are great". My wife had a dry bowl of cereal. She didn't trust the milk. I had a piece of toast, a hard boiled egg and yogurt. (As we were checking out a half-dozen breakfast sandwiches appeared for the diners.)
On the positive side. The room was clean. The shower's water pressure and temperature was acceptable. We liked the pillows. The bed clothes and towels were relatively new and well laundered. The coffee was good. The clerk who checked us out was very personable and efficient. Would we stay here again or recommend it to...
