I have never actually written a complaint about a restaurant before but this was by far the worst dining experience my family has ever had. While I can’t completely knock the food, the staff was by far the most arrogant , rude and careless service I have ever experienced. I ordered the Burrito Tejano, described as smothered in their cheese sauce. My daughter also ordered this item so I had something to compare it to. Hers had cheese all over it while mine had barely any covering it at all , not even enough to taste, so I asked for some extra as it was a clear difference. I was charged $4.99 for it and after I was told it was because the cheese didn’t spread on mine because my food wasn’t warm enough? I mean that alone shouldn’t happen right? Make it make sense. She then said well you finished all the cheese in the dish so if you eat it you have to pay for it, I’m sorry were you going to save and re-serve what was lesft in the tiny little dish of cheese you gave me ? She gave us so much attitude and I asked if she understood this was the service industry as I own a completely service orientated business myself that I have run for over 20 years. The waitress was beyond rude as well, throwing our check on the table as we were still eating and giving us boxes, when I brought that up , she said that that’s what she is told to do. Halfway through your meal?! I have never ever been talked to so rudely by wait staff or a “manager”. She even said to me look at these people coming in here we obviously are great, the restaurant was less than a quarter full , most of those people where there had attended a cheer competition in fredonia and live out of town. It’s clear your locals dont care for the establishment either because where were...
Read moreWhen my wife and I went to college at SUNY Fredonia (graduated in 2010), El Azteca was our favorite place in town to visit.
Life took us away from Fredonia for most of our lives since, but we recently stopped in to eat inside for the first time in over a decade…
A few things changed. The staff all seemed different, although we suspected one person is the daughter of a woman we used to see there all the time. There were a few changes to the menu, but not a ton. Some menu items stayed the same, but how they make it had some minor changes.
Most of the experience was exactly as we remembered it. The relaxing low-lighting, cool “Aztec” decor, and Latin music. The exceptionally friendly service — seriously, they’re always so nice. And, of course, the delicious food.
Our go-to menu item here has always been the Fajita Taco Salad, usually with steak (although my wife ordered chicken this most recent time). Every layer is delicious, from the cheese on top (it may be authentic “queso fresco,” but I’m honestly not educated enough to know) to the grilled meat and onions in the middle to the edible shell the salad comes in. The Fajita Taco Salad used to have refried beans on the bottom, but it is now all rice on the bottom. It’s still delicious though.
I also used to enjoy some of their enchilada and burrito dishes. I haven’t eaten them in 10+ years, but I have no doubt they’re as tasty as they used to be.
I won’t discourage you from ordering their basic “combination” meals — because I’m sure they’re great too — but I WILL encourage you to try some of their entrees and specialty dishes because those are where the best experience is at...
Read moreWe came upon this little authentic Mexican restaurant in Dunkirk and were pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly and quick. The food was not quick but timely. It is obvious that they are using traditional recipes and they aren't rushing the food out before it's ready. The usual complimentary salsa and chips were brought to the table. We shared an appetizer of Mexican Spring rolls accompanied by with a chipotle sauce. For my meal, I had the Camarones a la Diabla, which is shrimp in a spicy sauce, with Spanish rice and a small salad of avocado and pico de gallo on a bed of lettuce. The sauce is delicious, the shrimp cooked just right, the rice was not overly spiced, and it was just right, not too hard, not too soft. The salad was simple and complemented the the rest of the plate. I had the opportunity to get a taste of my two co-diners' dishes. The first was a combination enchilada dish with one bean, one cheese, one chicken, and one beef enchilada. I tasted the bean enchilada and the sauce was great. I can't speak to the other enchiladas but my co-diner enjoyed them. Our other co-diner had Tacos de carne Asada. I enjoyed a whole taco. If you want to have traditional Mexican, El Azteca Restaurant...
