Once upon a time, I used to live in the Dunkirk/Fredonia, and I was in love with the bustling life of a village injected with a vibrant college community. Our favorites started to close one by one, a final nail in the coffin was when Fredonia’s Mary’s Deli closed.
We were warmly greeted by a wonderful woman, Devon, and was guided to a perfect table four our family of six. For such a cool place (I used to work here when I was a kid and it was Ponderosa) it was empty. Like we were the only ones. I know that after college is out, it’s kinda dead, but it is never this dead on a Saturday. Wow.
We saw that there was Beef on Weck, which is a treat for ex-locals coming back. My wife says it was OK and that she had better. The best way to have beef on week is when you have piping hot beef rou that you dip your beef in which imparts the best flavor.
I had the barbecue Brewster special: pulled smoked pork smoked in-house. It was good if a bit dry. I fully believe that western New York can make any food better, but it just can’t smoke like the south smokes. The pork had a shadow of smoke. I suggest making a thinner bbq sauce with that smokiness in it to support the flavor rather than cover it up with a strong sweet and tangy thick store-bought sauce.
The kids had a grilled cheese, which was good, cheeseburger which was enjoyed, and chicken fingers which were amazing as they were made in clean oil. The portions were right along with the price, huge-eight dollars—and it was worth it.
Overall pleasant but could kick it up a bit to hit...
Read moreBe aware. When we decided to come to their Fredonia location tonight it was with some hesitation because we had a previous poor experience 3 weeks prior. I should have listened to my gut-feeling. After ordering this time we had to wait 40+ minutes for our food to arrive. (Like the time before) It came to our table cold and my wifes meal of fish was still raw. She lost her appetite after she tried it, then realizing the problem. The waitress immediately took it back. She asked if they could make another for her but we were not willing to wait another 45 minutes for substandard food. The kids meal of mac and cheese looks like it came out of a off brand box and was also cold. The overall quality here is not even close to the Jamestown location. It's as if they were run by 2 different companies. It wasn't a busy night. There were people who came in 20 minutes after we were there, who had their food 5 minutes later than us. I thought after we walked out maybe the cook must have taken his smoke break while our order was to be prepared and decided to look at the back of the building in public view. IT WAS DISGUSTING. Looks like a dump crashed into a...
Read moreGo somewhere else. Anywhere else would be better. This place is overpriced and the food is terrible. Service was good. Our first time, we wanted to try it. The dog on the sign got us. Maybe this food is made for dogs not human consumption.
We went today 9/28 for lunch. 12pm on Saturday. $50 for lunch for two with one lemonade and one water. Server was nice. Food was gross. I ordered nachos. Completely cold. Raw fat in the pork. Cold beer cheese. Ice cold bbq sauce on top of that. Like they didnt even heat it up. My daughter had wings and fries. The wings were honey mustard. Cooked nicely, but the sauce was all mustard. It was gross. And there was a gallon of sauce on them.
I didnt include pictures because the food would look better than it tasted. I dont see the need to complain to the poor server and talk to the weekend manager. Then wait for our food to be done right by a kitchen that doesnt know what its doing already. These simple oversights scream a poorly run kitchen. Taste food before you send. Check the temps. Its not hard. I heard all kinds of buzzers and cussing from the window, so I wasnt shocked that the food sucked. I...
