Overall, I was pretty pleased with my stay at the Quality Inn Dunkirk, but there were a few things about this hotel that I thought could be better, especially given the price that I paid for the room.
Regarding things that were great:
I really appreciated the free Continental Breakfast with the make your own waffle machine complete with butter and syrup for the waffle as well as the other items available like the wrapped cinnamon roles, yogurt, breakfast sandwiches to heat up, and the available drinks like orange juice.
I also really liked the guy Skryni who checked me in on Wednesday night as he was very nice and very helpful.
I also liked that the hotel was very conveniently located near a number of stores in the Dunkirk/Fredonia area.
I appreciated the pretty good number of towels that were provided to me to use in my room during my stay as well as the plastic cups for water.
The desk-like table in the room was great for setting up my things that I needed for the conference I was attending in the area.
I appreciated that the room had curtains that made it very dark at night so that it was easier to sleep, especially since the parking lot outside the window had pretty bright lights. These curtains worked so effectively I did not even realize the sun had come up one day until after I opened them.
Regarding my concerns about this hotel:
The person Aortiz who checked me out Friday morning was ok, but I thought she could have been a little friendlier in helping me to check out.
Both the hotel overall and the room felt dated for the price I paid, and some things in the room could have been better like what looked to be pretty worn carpet and the door lock key card mechanism for which I had to pull the door out towards me after inserting my key card in order to get the door to open properly. The room I was in also has very poor sound proofing so that every time someone opened and closed a door in the hallway I could easily hear it, even in the middle of the night.
The bed pillows at this hotel were absolutely terrible and offered no support for your head other than being flat and lumpy. If this is the standard type of pillow that Quality Inn provides to its guests I would consider staying somewhere else next time.
My only issue with the continental breakfast was that the tables available to sit at for eating all tended to need a little more cleaning than what they were given on the days during which I stayed at this hotel.
I also feel that a little more attention could have been given to the cleaning of the room in which I stayed, especially in the bathroom where I found hair on the Quality Inn shower bottles from someone else.
The TV in the room was somewhat confusing to use at first, especially in changing channels, and some instructions about this would have been...
Read moreThe hotel has a side 'lobby' room that looked old and had a non-working sauna room in the corner of the lobby room with no privacy. Very weird location. The room was extremely dated, smelled and the rug was absolutely disgusting, with stains from years gone by. On first glance the bathroom looked nice, until I noticed the thick layer of dust on the lower vanity shelf. Either the towels that were rolled on that shelf were not changed from the last guest, or they simply put the towels in the exact spot each time. It was so bad that I drew a frown face in it. Wonder if it will be seen? The air conditioner was old, rickety sounding and didn't keep the temperature at a comfortable level when on the auto setting, forcing us to keep it on all the time. The free wi-fi was awful and it was impossible to do any work on it. As a result, I had to turn it off and turn on my hotspot in order to do work. When I mentioned how bad it was to a worker having a cigarette break outside the side entrance, they agreed that getting a connection is impossible. The breakfast in the morning consisted of 2 trays- scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. It did not look appetizing at all. The only juice they had was apple or orange, but the orange was broken and apple juice dispenser broke on my son, getting all over him and did not...
Read moreThe staff was not very cordial. In the morning when we were leaving the staff was looking at her cell phone. I said we were checking out. She asked if I wanted a receipt. I said yes and then she went right back to her cell phone, handed it to me and never looked up. Never said thank you. Never said. Have a nice day. The hotel smelled. The hallway first floor we walked down now. Smelled Terrible. There were stains in the carpet. Our room the floor had stains. Couldn't even bring myself to walk barefoot on the floor. Made sure I kept my shoes on. The toilet did not go down when you flushed it right away. It filled up to the rim and then slowly went down. The bathtub was filthy. Neither my wife nor I could take a shower.
The breakfast was not the best as well. It looks like the hotel had not been updated since the 1980s. And could use a major overall the outside doors leading to the parking lot were not locked at night. At least the best I could tell they weren't locked. It's unfortunate because I am a choice hotels member. I am sorry about the name Quality Inn did not fit this Inn. Very disappointing. I am. I'm pretty sure though that this won't...
