Retired 66 year old NYPD officer. Just wanted to go on his childhood dream vacation to the baseball Hall of Fame. I made a reservation to stay at the Mohican hotel from August 5th to August 7th 2024. I ended up getting sick on the day of the trip . I called the following day to see if I could get a refund or take the trip at another time without being charged again. When I called, the person who answered the phone was the hotel manager. Her name was celest. I explained my circumstances to her and she was rude and did say inappropriate things to me. Important things do happen at the last minute, like an accident or somebody getting sick. When I said to Celest, would I still be charged if I was in a plane crash, her response was “well, if you were in a plane crash, you wouldn’t have to pay anyway.” I have been looking forward to this trip my whole life. I just wanted to go on a 3 day trip with my wife to a place I have always wanted to go. If that’s asking too much, then I am sorry I wrote this whole review. P.S. when I asked the manager (Celest) why she kept the money, she told me there were no refunds, and that’s the way it is. When I asked if anybody was above her to discuss this matter, her answer was no. I can’t honestly rate the Mohican hotel. I can only give it a rating from the conversation I had with the manager...
Read moreLodging in Cooperstown is “difficult “ - lots of visitors for the baseball and opera attractions, and not much in the way of hotels etc. this is our 3rd visit and we are still searching for a place we’d want to return to.||The Mohican provides the basics in reasonable comfort and is close to downtown which makes it easy to walk into town multiple times per day||The issue is the rooms smell musty/moldy/mildewy ( now that we are home we will have to wash everything to remove the smell)||We mentioned this to the woman in the office. She said she’d look into it. Other TA reviews have mentioned so she either doesn’t read the reviews or she doesn’t care or has no interest in resolving. There is a TA sign in the front office, btw.||We would never stay at Mohican again. They are, however, sold out every night during the season ||Why didn’t we change hotels as soon as we noticed the smell? You are required to pay in advance, no refund.||P.S. the free high speed Internet...
Read moreIf you can, try to stay in the bucolic rear building, where you're likely to see deer, woodchucks, and chipmunks and be serenaded by birds. Easy walk to supermarket, drug store, pizza, bank, and Stewart's convenience store, slightly longer walk to Main Street (restaurants, shops, Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame) or natural foods store. Lake Otsego, the Fenimore Art Museum, and the Farmers Museum are also walkable, but, if you don't feel like walking, the trolley stops very close to the motel. If you're going to the opera, you can walk to the Otesaga Hotel and get a trolley from there. Each room has air conditioning, a refrigerator, and a microwave oven, and the staff will help with other needs. A new (welcome) addition is Hulu! We've been coming annually for decades and expect to continue to do so; we even held a big family reunion here! It's a great place! Just one caution: Don't expect highway-motel prices; this is...
