5/5 Stars – A Cozy, Honest Breakfast Spot in the Heart of Cooperstown
We had a wonderful breakfast at Doubleday Café and walked away genuinely impressed with the entire experience. It’s a charming, welcoming spot right in the heart of town—clean, friendly, and refreshingly down-to-earth. It feels like one of those places that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try too hard, which is part of the appeal.
The service was warm and efficient without being overbearing. We were seated quickly, coffee came fast, and our meals were out in a reasonable time—even with a healthy morning crowd. I ordered an omelette, and it was just right: perfectly cooked, with fresh ingredients and a good balance of flavor. It’s easy for a simple breakfast dish to be forgettable, but this one hit all the right notes.
One thing we really appreciated was the pricing. With so many tourist-heavy spots around, it’s easy to expect a bit of sticker shock—but not here. Everything felt fairly priced, especially considering the quality and the location.
Overall, the vibe of the place is what will bring us back. It’s laid-back but thoughtful, and it has the kind of energy that makes you want to linger just a little longer over your coffee. Whether you’re heading to the Hall of Fame or just looking for a solid breakfast in Cooperstown, Doubleday Café is a great choice. Highly recommend stopping in—you won’t be...
Read moreNeeded a quick place for lunch. Walked in and were greeted. Seated after 4 min. Okay so far so good BUT we had the most surreal experiences ever with one of the servers. We WANTED to enjoy this cafe but we had the worst service.
We spoke our orders clearly and she just wouldn’t take our orders down right. She was clearly overtaxed and took our orders wrong and had an attitude as if we were just changing our orders for no reason.
Hello? Please try to understand what we are saying to you in the first place. We ordered burgers with different sides and drinks, and she just put down 4 of the same burgers with all the sides and drinks wrong.
She was running all over the place almost tackling customers and was clearly moving/thinking/speaking way too fast for her own good. Please someone tell her to slow down and actually verbally recite back what people order to check.
We tried to get her attention to fix the orders, but she acted super frustrated and kept walking away as we were still talking to her. We tried to clarify things and she just wouldn’t take the time to make the orders right. After waiting so long the orders from the kitchen were still wrong. At that point we just gave up.
Also, there’s no need to slam our dishes and mugs on our table. We were civil at all times and don’t deserve to be treated like aliens speaking a...

Very good bar/restaurant on Main Street. Service is generally attentive. Excellent vegetarian options.
As with most stores on Main Street in Cooperstown, this store can get very busy. To avoid a wait in peak season try to get there on the early or late side of the mealtime rush. I've had good veggie burgers, quesadillas, omelettes, and salads here. My meat eating companions always seem to like their burgers and hot dogs. They've got some local brews on tap from Brewery Ommegang. Give them a taste. Service is competent and efficient. There are TVs in every corner, but at least their volume isn't set too high.
In the winter try to avoid sitting near the door. There's a vestibule, but some polite types will often hold both sets of doors open for the next person chilling the front of the room down.
In the busy season try to avoid the two tables in the window area. You can get cut off from your server by the crowd of people waiting for a table. This spot resulted in one of the only sub-par service experiences I've had in over 20 years of going to the Doubleday. Otherwise,...
