I am giving this two stars not because of the accommodations, but because of the service. I stayed at this hotel because of a workshop that was taking place at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. I am from Texas and had to do my best to navigate to this place based on the best information that I could find. With that information, when I had taken the LIRR from NYC, I got off at the Cold Spring Harbor train station. Apparently this was not the right train station, even though it was the closest to the hotel. I had called different cab services and they would not pick up at this train station, so I called the hotel. I was told that the shuttle was busy and couldn't pick me up, but that they would transfer me to a cab service. This cab service would also not pick up at this train station. I had to walk the 2.5 miles to the hotel, with my luggage.
I'm not an unreasonable person, though, and knew that ultimately it was my fault. Just a bit frustrating because I would HOPE for more support from the hotel. Pushing that aside, that night I went back down to the front desk and made arrangements for the shuttle to drop me off and pick me up from the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory for both Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday morning comes and the shuttle drops me off at the laboratory. I go through the day at the workshop and I am standing out front for about 10 minutes before I call to verify that I'm supposed to be picked up. When I called, the gentleman on the phone had indicated that I was not on their schedule and asked who I talked to. I told him I did not know who I talked to (as I don't make it a habit to write down everyone's name that provides a service to me). He put me on hold for about 3ish minutes and came back on to say that a shuttle was going to pick me up. Then he asked when.... ? Well, the answer at that point was about 15 minutes prior to the time we were speaking. So he told me that the shuttle was on its way. I waited an hour and no shuttle showed up. I had to call a cab. When I got to the hotel, I went back to the front desk because I was more than a little frustrated. When I mention that I was supposed to be picked up, the lady told me that I wasn't on their schedule and AGAIN asked who I spoke to. I moved on and verified my appointments for Thursday, which were both scheduled, but at different times than I was originally told.
Thursday morning, I was dropped off on time by the shuttle and was really hoping for a better experience that day. When the workshop was over, I had passed on a tour of the Cold Spring Harbor Lab campus so that I did not miss the shuttle. 10 minutes after the shuttle was supposed to be there, I called to verify again that the shuttle was coming. The gentleman told me that it was on its way (again, the hotel is about 5 miles away from the lab). I waited 45 more minutes and the shuttle still hadn't shown up. The campus tour finished before I got to leave because another person attending the workshop gave me a ride since they were staying in the same hotel.
I emailed the manager and have not heard back. Very disappointing trip for me. The accommodations are very nice. The food was good. This experience put a damper on the entire thing. I traveled across the country to a place that is very foreign to me. I felt helpless more than once and did not receive the service that the hotel told me was provided, as long as it...
Read moreI deleted the review I posted earlier. My second experience here was awful, this hotel is not dog friendly. The only positive was the housekeeping lady, the rest of the staff is trash. Six months ago my stay here was great - staff was friendly, room was awesome, loved it. At that time I saw doggies coming in and out and figured the hotel was dog friendly. As usual, I booked through the corporate travel site. Wife was excited to come with me, and our dog too - we have a 15 lbs toy golden doodle who flies with us, friendliest and cuddliest dog ever.
We arrived around 10PM, and the staff clearly saw the dog in my wife’s lap, complimented him on his looks and how well behaved he was, and gave us room 106. That room is awful - avoid at all costs. Right next to the kitchen, always noisy, no WiFi, stay away!!!
The dog was anxious with all the commotion, so I went the next morning to ask for a room change. Awful front desk staff, they hate dogs clearly. Another dog owner was complaining about something, they left very disappointed.
A couple of days later, the “manager” accused me of not informing at checkin that I had a dog - great news lady, next time I’m bringing balloons and poppers and some music to make sure you’re all informed my dog has arrived. Your staff saw my dog, I told you the second day I had a dog, but you’re right - I was hiding him from you. He’s not a small animal. He doesn’t shed, he doesn’t have accidents inside. But I paid your fee, and moved on when I checked out.
Not allowing the dog in the courtyard should make it clear to everyone that this is not a pet friendly place. Avoid this place unless you like to confront problems head-on like me; I’m looking forward to my next stay here :)
EDIT after your comments: your dog policy on the website says nothing about the courtyard. That’s the best place for the dog especially in the morning when he/she wants to play. You just confirmed what I said - you’d like fanfare for announcing a dog. Your staff saw him, check the cameras. You are NOT a pet friendly hotel, it’s more of a nuisance that you have to deal with. Fix your comment, your staff made it clear to me not to enter through the main entrance, ONLY the...
Read moreWhen we were considering Fox Hollow, we were given a tour as weddings were going on, and we of course were not able to view those spaces being occupied. We were not extended the same courtesy. We deserved the same respect that has and should be given to ALL paying customers.
The venue paraded a perspective couple through our wedding, on our time which was completely tacky, unprofessional and unacceptable.
When mentioned to the staff they literally shrugged their shoulders and asked what the big deal was. Excuse me? I did not pay for my wedding to be showcased to strangers. The complete lack of disregard was unwarranted. This was a private and intimate occasion meant to be shared with our family and our friends.
I cannot in good faith recommend this venue to anyone.
We spent a lot of money to have our wedding here only for the event to be interrupted so that the venue can make a potential sale.
Aside from this mishap, everything else was decent. It is a beautiful place, that unfortunately I will not recommend unless you want this money hungry venue trying to pitch their services to other people while using your wedding as an advertisement.
Too much time, energy and money went into our wedding for something as inappropriate as this to have happened on our big day.
I would not recommend the Fox Hollow to anyone that is looking for a venue space as it is highly likely that they would disrespect and disregard all of your hard work effort that will go into your wedding. I've had several people that are looking into venues ask about my experience with the Fox Hollow because they thought that it was a beautiful space, and I certainly let them know that apparently advertising and making sales is more important than anything else to the Fox Hollow on what should be your special day.
I waited a few days before writing this review, but I honestly cannot get over this! I am utterly disappointed with...
