I am Bonappetitmom on Instagram. I went to Volpe for a nice dinner and what I got was a magnificent experience. Stunning, enchanted, and elegant is what you feel the moment you enter the doors to Volpe Ristorante located in the Fox Hollow Inn in Woodbury, NY. The warmth and beauty of this magical inn is breathtaking. There is a beautiful staircase to guide you to Volpe. There is an elevator, in case you cannot do the stairs. Once you reach the top of the stairs we were greeted by their lovely manager, and escorted to our table. Upon being seated, I looked through the window and the spectacular view of the grounds was just dazzling. The warm colors of the walls and floor in the ristorante, was so welcoming. Our server, came to our table and introduced himself. He asked us what type of water we preferred to drink. He then told us of the cocktail specials. I ordered my whiskey sour and my guest ordered the Volpetini was a beautiful raspberry vodka martini that was stunning and delicious. Our server brought to the table three signature bottles of olive oil. One was infused with fresh rosmary, one with crushed red pepper flakes and one that was just a good quality olive oil. We tried all of the oils. Each had a very distinct flavor. Our server suggested some of the appetizers and salads to start. We listened to his suggestions and ordered the Fritto Misto. Fried calamari, shrimp, zucchini, with Arrabiatta, Roasted Garlic Aioli, and Pesto. The presentation was nothing less than brilliant. The look and the smell was so enticing. We enjoyed every single bite. We also ordered the Caprese Salad. Fresh housemade Mozzarella along side tomatoes, yellow peppers and fresh basil was delicious. The Mozzarella cut like butter. It was luxuriant, and silky to the feel to the mouth. For our entrees we ordered the Colorado Rack of Lamb. Herb crusted and served medium rare over perfectly cooked vegetables and potatoes. Cooked to perfect, the lamb was so juicy and succulent. The herb crust was bursting with flavor. the lamb was placed over mixed vegetables and potatoes, cooked to perfection. I ordered the veal chop. This dish was also a show stopper. the veal was surrounded y sauteed mushrooms, placed a top of vegetables and potatoes. Both dishes were just heavenly. We ordered cappuccino and desserts. We shared the Chocolate Lava Cake, chocolate cake filled with warm chocolate ganache. It was absolutely amazing. We also had Pastette,a cannoli filling with ricotta and chocolate chips, served warm. This was an exceptional dessert. This meal was phenomenal. As we ate our wonderful dinner, the restaurant chef came out to meet us. Only in a high quality restaurant, does this happen. The staff during our dinner came over and gave us background to the high quality of ingredients used to make each dish unique and delicious. Volpe has the highest quality of food, staff and ambience. This is a restaurant that I definitely will return to because dining at Volpe is a one of a kind...
Read moreThis past Saturday we went to dinner at Volpe - as we have done so many time before. Sadly, what we found was not the exqusite, highly professional restaurnat we have know fore the past 35 years, but rather an experience among the worst we have ever had at any restaurant (and that includes McDonald's and Wendy's). We were greeted by a pleasant young lady who seated us in the indoor portion of the restaurant, where we sat totally ignored. Finally, a waitress (or so we thought) came over and we ordered wine - when she returned with the wine we asked to give her our order since we had sat there almost 40 minutes, but she refused claiming she was just "heping out" and walked away. At that point I realize I should have just paid for the wine and gone elsewhere. But, as I said, this has been one of our favorite restaurants for many years. So there we sat with our wine another half hour with no one coming by our table (not event to bring over bread). I finally had enough and asked to speak with the Manager at which point I was led into the kitchen where what was obviously a minor kitchen worker pretended to be the manager. This would have been bad enough but this kitchen worker was quite rude and when I mentioned we had been sitting over an hour with no waiter in sight he said, "so what", there were tables outside that had been waiting just as long - he seemed to feel that this should excuse the intolerable service we were receiving. Finally he took our order himself and our food was eventually served - by the way, the only person who conducted himself in a courteous and professional manner was the youngf man who served our food and bussed our dishes. To compund the insult of this intolerable night, by the time we left (almost 2 1/2 hours after arriving) there was still no sight of our waiter who did not even have the common courtesy of offering an appology for the horrible service. As I told the "manager" this was the last time we would be coming to Volpe - he could not even understand why I said that. While the food was OK (sadly nothing more than that) a night out to dinner is far more than just the food as I truly had believed that the Scotto Brother understood - I have always thought highly of their restaurants, an opinion I must now reconsider. My advice to the Scotto's, fire EVERYONE except the yonug man who served our food (make him your manager as he seems the only one who understands the meaning of courtesy). As for the "manager" we dealt with, I would relegate him to trimming the lawn and having nothing to do with food or people. MY advice to anyone planning to go to Volpe - DON'T, got to Wendy's instead, you will have a more pleasant evening. For those of you who think that I actually gave this horror of an eatery one star, I did not - it seems I had to give at least one before I could...
Read moreDO NOT GET SCAMMED! Got a call from a lady with a private cell number comes up as Kauser asking if I have a reservation at this place for 12 people and was so rude about it. She first called and asked me if I would like to confirm I said yes and she immediately stated that she needed a credit card to hold to keep the reservation. I wasn't the person who made it so l told her I would call them and let them know to put their card number in. She called me again, this time with an attitude and said hello I'm calling again to confirm and I said yes no problem. She now says I need to PAY a deposit. I said well didn't you say you just need the card to hold? She's like no the deposit is $150 to hold it. So I'm trying to talk with the person about the reservation next to me and said how about if we make the reservation for 8 people? She was like maam are you gonna pay it or not it's still $150 and the phone disconnected. Immediately after I got an email stating my reservation was cancelled. She then proceeds to call me a third time and said Hi not sure if the line got disconnected but would you like to pay the $150 to HOLD your reservation. I was like well the way it's being handled I'm not sure anymore. What if the reservation was for 4 people? She said verbatim "Well if it's for 4 people it'll be for 4 people and that's it". With that attitude I was like hun next time if you're asking for such a big deposit you need to approach people in a nicer manner instead of just demanding money off of a private number. She was like would you like me to use the restaurants number for you to make the deposit? I was like no honestly I'll just book online without a deposit because it states that nowhere online. She was like okay your reservation is cancelled then. But she already cancelled it so anyways don't come here I can't imagine what the service would be like if those are just the calls to confirm a...
