This is our second year staying at staybridge as a family of 6. We were disappointed this time around though, which is saddening because we had a wonderful experience in 2018.
Pros: The suites are fantastic sizes for big families. We have four children. We got our own bed and bathroom, the kids had two beds and a bathroom as well. The kitchen is fully stocked with a fridge, stove, microwave, toaster oven and toaster. There may have been a dishwasher too, but I can't remember. There was a sink to wash your dishes and cupboards stocked with pots, pans, silverware, mugs etc. The fridge is full size and the freezer is nice size too. The room included a pack of microwave popcorn wiki have the kids were excited about and coffee/tea was great for my husband and myself.
Cons: The pool and hot tub were filthy. There was dirt on the inside of the hot tub and there were fragments of something on the floor of the pool that you felt in some areas when you walked. The beds in the room were rather uncomfortable, not for people with back issues for sure. The TVs were pretty small in the rooms. The breakfast quality was awful. Fake round eggs, burned English muffins and sausage was the main meal. The variety of breakfast wasn't good. The man filling the breakfast buffet was really rude and seemed annoyed when I asked him for juice for my kids. (The juice machine was broken our entire stay).
We did love that they had a social hour at night with wine, beer and salad. Although we weren't able to participate because we have children, we would have loved to had we brought a sitter along. The salad bar got good use from my 4 year old Son who loves salads, so that was a great dinner for him. The room itself is fantastic. The showers are big and have full size pump bottles of shampoo/conditioner/body wash. It's more than accommodating for big families and didn't make us feel so crammed with 4 active kids like other hotels do. We weren't confined to one small room, which is why we will continue to use staybridge for our sanity, haha.
One HUGE complaint I have is noise. The walls and doors are so thin, you hear everything. And when you have a one year old trying to sleep- kids running down the hallways or housekeeping in the next room banging everything around can' result in a difficult sleeping time for any little child sensitive to noise. There was also a constant draining sound in both the bathrooms all night long. It's in the ceiling and it's the most annoying sound ever. Every few minutes in makes this loud clapping noise and we had to close both the bathroom doors because it was so distracting.
For what we paid for one night, I wasn't impressed with the value or the service of food, cleanliness of pool/hot tub and discomfort if our sleep.
Would we stay again? Yes. All because the size and accessibility of a full sized kitchen that makes you feel more at home than in a hotel. I hope by next year, they amp up the complaints to make it feel like you're really getting everything...
Read moreWe booked multiple rooms, one 2 bedroom suite and one 1 bedroom suite.
Positives: Room size was ok, clean and as per the description online. Breakfast was a bit diff everyday and we liked every time. It was great. Social time (dinner) in the evening was great. 2 Bedroom suite had 3 TVs and 1 bedroom on had 2 TVs, basically one TV in each room which was really great for privacy. Check-in was great. Some of my extended family members reached earlier but were able to check in although it was booked under me. The receptionist took my details and matched with what I booked and let them in. This was great.
Negatives: 2 bedroom suite had immediate issues which should have been checked while inspection before guest comes in like plumbing and lighting issues. One of the bathroom had plumbing issues which took almost 2 days to resolve. 1st night, we were given an extra room by the receptionist because of the plumbing issue which was generous but that was it (good service ended right there). Day 1 receptionist was really nice and helpful and I can give full marks to only him. Next day when issue was not resolved, they did not even let us know that we cannot access the extra room and when we went to take bath, we realized access was revoked without informing. They did try to fix this plumbing issue but could not on Day 2. We let the receptionist know that we are out for whole day so they can fix it whenever possible. We came back and without checking we asked the receptionist (late in the night when we returned) if the issue was fixed, she said it was not due to unavailability of plumber. We checked the next morning and realized it was actually fixed at night itself which tells me the staff does not even care or have any coordination for the tasks on hand. On another occasion we requested room service, they only did a touch up citing unavailability of staff. 1 bedroom had broken table (I believe we did not report this as we were not using that much). Location is a bit outskirt. Staybridge Amherst location is better but it was giving 2 double beds instead of queen in one of the bedroom in the 2 bedroom suite hence we had to chose this one.
Overall the stay was good if I remove the service and plumbing issues. We had a great time otherwise, met/stayed with our extended family after...
Read moreWe loved our first one-night visit, place for kids to rest half way through our trip. We chose because light dinner meal and Breakfast are included, kids love the two room suite.
Please note that our stay was one-night, not extended stay. The hotel is PERFECT for extended stays. I feel a little bad writing this review since we only stayed one night, but this time, our visit was disappointing.
First of all, NY State Thruway view room, way too much traffic noise (trucks) kept wife and one child up very late.
The food offering at the Social Evening Reception was uneatable, potato skins were dry with old melted cheese that had solidified, canned chili, canned cheese sauce - YUK! "Greek Salad" no Feta, no olives, ranch dressing, sliced tomatoes #obviously from a hamburger garnish tray# Just terrible - not even close to a Greek salad. Ended up ordering out for dinner which added cost to the trip.
Breakfast - I watched an unaccompanied child sneeze into his hand and they rifle through the bagels with the same hand. - yum! The fruit in the fruit salad was hard and tasteless, powered scrambled eggs, some kind of sausage, but not appropriate for breakfast. Soggy French toast sticks #steamed to a limpness that resembled overcooked pasta#. Yogurt, OJ and fresh made Waffles saved the day - the make-yourself Waffles are WONDERFUL!
One of two elevators was closed for new tile installation, which was scheduled at the same time new roles of carpet were delivered and installed on 3rd floor. Line at single working elevator - guests and carpet installers with 12' wide carpet rolls.
On the plus side, the kids enjoyed the pool, great cookies at the front desk, very friendly and helpful staff, good coffee. Rooms clean and comfortable #except for traffic noise#. We will be back, so I would recommend this property based on our first visit, which was wonderful. Our first visit was during the summer, outdoor grilled hamburgers for evening reception were great - kids really enjoyed.
Since we only stayed one night, I can not comment on daily housekeeping, but our room was clean upon arrival.
Kudos to the staff, from the front desk to the housekeeping and maintenance staff, everyone is friendly and respectful - made us feel...
