Thanks for the worst stay in a lifetime and finally showing my 69 year old dad what it feels to be a victim of ignorance! My parents were embarrassed, disrespected, were asked to leave the property and cops were called on them for requesting for a change of rooms. My parents visited your Travelodge property in Traverse City, MI with my aunt and uncle a couple of weeks ago and we had booked using Hotwire. When my dad saw from behind open curtains that there was a vacancy at a suite adjacent to my aunt and uncle, he went up to reception desk and asked if they could switch them from their assigned suite to a suite adjacent to our extended family. The reception desk clerk was an extremely rude lady who said she couldn't do that without even checking for vacancy. When my dad told her that he saw the vacant suite adjacent to my aunt-uncle's suite, he asked about checking again and when she refused, he asked her to at least check the system. She barked a loud refusal instead of providing an explanation on why she wasn't checking. My dad manages a Motel 6 and he asked her if she was new to the job and didn't know how to use the booking system, in which case asked if she could get some assistance and at least try to help them out. In a matter of these couple of exchanges, she asked my parents in front of my family to leave the property or she'd call the cops. My parents were shocked and expressed frustration around the manner in which she was talking to them and she picked up the phone and called the cops. My parents were extremely embarrassed and waited for the cops to arrive to plead their case. After speaking to the cops, the cops admitted that my parents were in no way at fault based on their exchange but because it was a private property, they had to leave the premises if the reception desk clerk asked them to leave. Embarrassed, angry and shocked, they left and went to another property after their enthusiasm for the trip had been marred by your staff's ignorance. I was left at a loss of words and angry beyond belief having heard of the story from my dad. I understand that losing our family's business and faith in your brand might not even result in a blip in your empire, but I couldn't help but bring this to your attention and have faith in the power of social media to bring to light the mismanagement at one of your properties. We're all avid travellers, taking frequent vacations and short leisure trips. I am a frequent business traveller and have travelled across 37 states in the country so far, but never have I or anyone in my family ever come across such ignorance and appalling customer service. The Travelodge at Traverse City, MI has left a very dark mark in my 69 year old dad's and my family's perception of all Wyndham properties. I will be posting this here on Facebook, on Kayak, Hotwire, TripAdvisor and Expedia as I want this story to be heard. The ignorance of the reception desk clerk shouldn't go unnoticed and if no action is taken against her, it only means that Wyndham supports her actions and that we should expect such customer service at all...
Read moreAlthough many of the reviews posted are accurate, I am still giving this place a five-star rating. Let me explain why. With the vast number of hotel options in the area, you picked this motel for one of three reasons: every other place is booked, you are a pathological cheapskate, or, most likely, you have a very small budget where every penny counts. No review will help the first two, but this review is for the majority in that last club.
Since this motel is on the lowest end of the budget spectrum, you know there are certain sacrifices you must make, but if you take that risk and stay here, overlooking the minor aesthetic flaws, you will feel like you splurged and paid for the royal treatment! For so little money, you get a very friendly staff, who are eager to make you happy and comfortable. You get a heated pool, next to the large hot tub spa. Your room is clean and cozy. You wake to the very nicest free breakfast I have ever seen, and I have traveled for many years on corporate expense accounts!
Seriously, this breakfast experience, alone, is worth the price. The facility, literally, sparkles from the cleanliness and the attention to every detail. I would never expect this level of quality from any hotel, charging less than $100 per night. DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST, HERE! You will regret it. You have to experience it to truly understand. It's not just the food, it's the whole package.
And, finally, I have to share a secret gem that I, accidentally, lucked into. If you have a little more flexibility in your budget, or you have some reward points saved up, OR, if you have another couple or two, who you can pool resources with, do not pass up the opportunity to stay in the condos. They are so adorably cute, spacious, and well-equipped that you don't want to leave. Right now, I am fighting the urge to stay here for a week! It reminds me of some very expensive vacation cottages that I've enjoyed throughout my life.
If you were in those first two groups of people that I mentioned, I hope you find some place else to stay. You won't enjoy this little unpolished pearl, and you will submit a poor review, casting an undeserved shadow on these remarkable budget accommodations. Leave these rooms for the good people who will cherish the rare blessing of getting so many unexpected perks for the modest price that a working family struggles to pay. For the rest of you, look no further; you found your new favorite motel in...
Read moreWe were traveling throughout Michigan enjoying the sites. We had heard a lot about the wineries in Traverse City and wanted to check them out. We were coming from Mackinac Island and were planning on doing a wine tour later that afternoon. We were going with a group and they had changed the time to 2:30 instead of 3:30. We made good time to Traverse City in spite of the downpour of rain. We got to the Travelodge Lodge around 11:20am and walked into the lobby and spoke with the clerk. We asked her how soon could we possibly check in. She stated to come back in a couple of hours, and I said around 1:00 or 1:30 and she said yes. We were glad to hear it because we would be able to unload our luggage before we went on the 4.5 hour tour. Since we were meeting the group at a brewery we planned to take an Uber at 2:10pm. We got back to the Travelodge at about 1:30pm and my husband went to check if we could get a room. The clerk was joined with another girl, and when he came in her whole demeanor changed. When my husband asked if there was anything available she said "No, nothing is ready and to come back at 2. My husband heard the clerk say to the other one "I told them 2!" When we came back around 2, the clerks were there working on the computer. They knew we were there but chose to ignore us until I finally said - do you mind if we leave our car parked here as we need to go on a wine tour for 4.5 hours. She finally acknowledged us and told us to have fun. Really? Please don't do us any favors. I REALLY WISH she would have been up front with us from the beginning and told us you CANNOT check in until after 2. I would have gotten another hotel as there were plenty of them that had vacancies. P.S. The next morning I went in the lobby to get some coffee. I tried to get some coffee and the machine was empty. I let the clerk know and walked out. We left 15 minutes later and still no coffee. Fortunately, out of all the hotels we stayed at this was the ONLY one where we had poor customer service. So I have to say out of 8 hotels we did...
