This stay was just what I needed for a few days of rest & recovery after an accident. Stayed in the Sunflower Casita which is private & super cute. With its own parking spot, we were texted directions & could go right in with the key waiting in the door. I appreciated not having to go to a lobby to check in. We had TWO private tubs for soaking at any time we wanted. One on our patio & one a few steps away. The room was cute. Art, sunflowers, decor. Patio (we moved a chair & table out there to enjoy it more); living room with a hide-a-bed couch (not a futon), an AC, & a strong ceiling fan; a kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffee, table & chairs & an AC (there is also a communal kitchen area for cooking that I did not see); a bathroom with a large shower; & a bedroom with a comfy king bed, big smart TV with lots of channels (we logged in to our Netflix/Amazon accounts to watch movies). All with charming sunflowers & folk art decor. I soaked in the hot springs 8 times. It really is healing! I booked a nice massage. In their main lodging area there is a room with a massage table. They have 3 therapists you can choose on their website . I met the patio kitty. It was perfect quiet rest & relaxation for me. But it is located right in the heart of the historic downtown area with lots to see & do within walking distance. I will go back & I look forward to staying there again! The only things that kept me from giving it 5 stars are that the bedroom did not have an AC or ceiling fan (will bring my own next time) and that the hot spring tubs didn't have a cool water valve. It is July & it was 98 outside! A bit more furniture by the tub & in the living room would make it better for "hanging out" - I would have liked a small TV in the living room. Great Wifi & we felt totally safe & secure here - as 2 women traveling alone. This is a wonderful place & I recommend going there. I look forward to going back!

Becoming our favorite quick getaway. Last time, Christmas eve, we stayed in the Sunflower Casita, which we loved. This time we stayed in the River Casita which was even better. It's attached to the owners property, RIGHT on the Rio Grande. Richard showed us around & made us feel very welcome. There is a deck over the water where we had dinner, and beautiful stonework that goes right down to the water. The views were stunning, the river was so relaxing, but the wildlife was beyond amazing! We saw red-tailed hawks and Peregrine falcons hunting along the river. We saw a pelican flying south (I had to look this up on the city website to be sure it was possible), herons, bats, ducks, quail families, owls, & fell asleep to coyotes calling from the opposite bank. And the spring waters were refreshing & rejuvenating. The casita had everything we needed for a nice meal & a good sleep. (Only caveat, if you're chemically sensitive like me, remember to bring your own pillow, the linens are laundered with synthetic chemical detergents with very strong smells.) We hope to get back soon! Delightful & relaxing!

We stayed in the agave room. There is a very large private mineral hot springs tub right in the room. Its made of tile, looks nice, and accommodates 2 people easily. The water felt great and my skin was so smooth after bathing. The bed was king sized and comfy. The room had all the essential basics: microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, tv, table, couch, and even had robes in the room. The room smelled earthy in a pleasing way. It reminded me of a massage therapist's room. Also the agave room is tucked away with the sunflower room and they have their own gated entrance. It was very private. I would definitely stay here again. It was a nice peaceful stay. Be forewarned though, if you are coming here just for the hot springs you really are coming here just for the hot springs. There is absolutely nothing to do in the town.

OK hear me out! This was our 2nd time coming to this place but with our children. We rented the one right next to the river since we took our children with us so they can also enjoy the hot spring water, we stayed at the "back house by the river" for 3 nights. The house itself was beautiful, it comes with everything we needed although we bought our own stuff (we went to Walmart nearby) like disposable plates, cups, utensils, etc..even food, drink and snack and seasoning (we did BBQ) at the backyard,.. but like I said it came with everything even the grill, charcoal and lighter fluid for the BBQ. There's 2 twin size bed and another queen size bed in a separate room althought where the queen size bed was doesn't really have privacy for couples. There's a full kitchen, dining and a small living room area. The area itself near the river was awesome! It's quiet, peaceful and beautiful. The pool/tub itself near the river or in that back house was also nice to have although they said that the water was only warm (supposed to be) but no, it was just those tap water from the regular faucet. It's not that warm lol and yes it took a while to fill the tub as well so by the time u want to soak, the water will be cold already so basically my children didn't really enjoyed the tub. There's also patio on top of the pool/tub and facing the turtleback mountain. Mind you, it was still winter when we went there (plus it was really, really windy and had a dust storm those 3 days we were there) Now, good thing there's a hot tub in the main lodge near the gate where no one really used it so we took our kids there to soak for couple of times. Also, FYI...be very careful with your food being on top of the shelves, table or somewhere else inside that house because there's a mice! The Mice took a bite with almost everything we had, chips, cereal, bread you name it so yea we threw away alot of our food! And yes my kids saw the mice too. We told the owner about it so he can do something to it, hopefully (he lives right next to the back house by the river too) So, well aside from all this new experiences we have had to this place for the 2nd time visit, we will definitely come back still since we love the area and the atmosphere of it along with the stuff and ofcourse the cat named Boots! We love him! Still not a bad place to unwind, soak, stay and chill with your love ones! Me and my husband will definitely comeback again next year but we will be back with the in-room...

So first of all, the room was amazing. Beautiful, clean. Mineral water was hot, the tub was gorgeous. It's in a convenient spot to the downtown area. Right next to the brewery and a few stores/restaurants. Very fun!

Upon our arrival, we discovered that Pedro Pascal was filming a movie literally right outside our room. Which is crazy cool, but also meant the entire street including the parking lot for the establishment was inaccessible. This is obviously outside of the control of the owners, but we were given no information on where we should park instead and had to rely on help from the filming crew, who were just as perplexed as we were that we had been given no information from the management. Things falls through the cracks and I get that, but when we initially tried to call the number given to us if we had any questions, no one answered the phone. You'd think if you weren't going to adjust the email they sent out with directions (which I'm sure is usually very helpful), you'd at least make sure someone was answering phones to help guests who had no clue where they were meant to be parking. Luckily the filming crew was more than happy to help out.

On the morning of our departure, someone attempted to open our door at 10am (checkout is at 11) while I was naked in the bathroom getting ready to leave. I could hear them saying something about cleaning, so I assume this was housekeeping. Instructions said to leave keys in the door on departure. This was an hour before checkout and keys were not in the door. I have no idea why they thought that trying to open the door, with no knock or announcement, an hour before checkout when no keys were in the door was a good idea, but it gave me quite a fright!

If you're the kind of person who's good at figuring things out on your own on the fly, you will be perfectly happy here! If you're the kind of person who prefers things to go according to plan, or at least to have assistance from management when they don't, I'd recommend somewhere else.

We had a lovely time, and will definitely be returning, but it isn't hard for me to imagine others being very stressed by the action (or lack thereof) of management in the circumstances we found ourselves in. And while I appreciate the go-gettaness of their housekeeping, maybe tell them to knock before attempting to...

Had a total disaster with how our reservation was handled at another resort (see my other review). After a long drive a then suddenly no place to stay, we were at our wits-end. Richard at the Fire Water Lodge quite literally saved our vacation. He was very accommodating and understanding of the situation we were put in and quickly helped to relieve the aggravation we felt with the other establishment. The rest of our stress melted away once we got to our room and started filling the tub. Good sized room was well furnished with comfortable King size bed but the best part was the tub. I have a severe back injury and the size of the tub combined with the hot spring water was amazing. I was able to lay flat on my back and stretch my arms over my head and neither my feet nor hands touched either side! This made it possible for me to do some physical therapy stretches etc. while in the hot bath rather than on a cold floor as usual. Even just being able to float flat on my back like you can in a pool was so much better than the usual fetal position most bath tubs put you in. It was large enough to comfortably fit my wife, myself, and our 1 year old son with room for us to move and stretch out. The only thing that got us out of our room and away from the tub was food. Good location in town- there is a surprisingly good expensive restaurant a block behind the Fire Water, and several really good and cheap places to eat all within walking distance. Happy Belly Deli next door was also really good and we didn't make it any further for breakfast, free egg and cheese bagel for Fire Water guests, I also recommend the breakfast burrito. When you are looking for a place to stay in T or C, remember that the hot spring water is the same at every resort in town and the only differences will be with how warmly you are welcomed by the people running the place, how nice the rooms are, and how comfortably large the bath is. With that in mind I highly recommend the Fire Water Lodge, and am planning to try to budget somewhat regular visits to help with my back injury. The Fire Water experience was exactly what we were...
