I arrived in town in the late afternoon and after checking into my Airbnb, I went looking for a place to eat I hadn't eaten anything substantial all day and was pretty hungry. This was the first place I saw after looking at numerous places via google map. Walked in about 4 pm. there were 3 other tables with people at them. The staff just looked at me when I came in and I had to ask if I should seat myself, they said go ahead. The 2 waitresses dilly dallied a bit before they brought chips, menu and asked what I wanted to drink. They have a bar seating area but do not serve alcohol.. strange. I ordered iced tea/ half and half sweet non sweet. I also ordered the beef Taco salad with extra guacamole and Sour cream. Most places are pretty chinses with it so I always get more While I waited for my food, they started rearranging the tables and seating, making large groupings, I overheard them talking about a group of 8 and one of 12 coming in at 5pm. And then one said pretty loudly to the other that it was nice when people called ahead of time to reserve a place!! Are you kidding me? I'm a table of 1! As 5 pm was approaching, the different parties came straggling in but also another group of 6 came in without reservations... you could just see the waitresses becoming aggravated. I ate my Taco Salad (ok but a tad small) then asked for to go containers for the huge amount of extra guac and sour cream. They gave you alot on the salad and as an extra side , Best thing about the place but I got an eye roll on that request. I then paid for my meal and got out of there. The service leaves much to be desired. Will definitely look for another restaurant. for the next 2 days...
Read moreWhile in Truth or consequences we visited this establishment 3 times. Twice we came at night and had the most amazing experience. Everything was taken care of so quickly, waitress was extremely kind and welcoming and food was amazing. Truly an above and beyond experience.
We also came for lunch and had a different server and a completly different experience. We were left ungreeted and without menus for a very long period of time. The server did rush by us and say sorry for the wait at one point, which was fine it was busy, but it would have been nicer waiting with menus as we wanted to try something different this time. After awhile we considered leaving but I loves the food so much we waited. Finally got drinks and ordered. Noticed we didn't get chips this time and thought maybe they didn't do that for lunch, but then the table next to us got chips and we started to wonder if the server just didn't like us. The first order she brought out was wrong, but clearly a miscommunication so no problem. But then the second order brought out was also wrong. I ordered chicken and got beef. At this point it was starving so just ate it. Was still amazing so whatever. Because everything had been so slow I had told her when she brought out our lunch that we wanted flan for desert. We finished the meal, put our plate on the edge of the table and again were ignored. I eventually walked up to the counter and ordered dessert there. We also had a coffee that we never got a refill for, but just gave up on. We were there for well over an hour when we just wanted a quick lunch. Still giving it a 5 star review because the dinner server went so above and beyond. Maybe just don't...
Read moreStopped by El Faro with my mother and my nephew and his family, for my mothers 86th birthday.
The reason we ended up at El Faro is we first went to the other Mexican restaurant in town because it was close to my motel. After waiting 25 minutes (at this other unnamed Mexican restaurant) to bring our cokes and waters. We said we were ready to order when the waitress told us she was handling 12 other tables and was to busy to take our order. Which was a direct lie as only 3 tables in the whole restaurant was filled. I could rattle on and on about this other Mexican restaurant, but this is a review about El Faro. So...
As soon as was entered El Faro we were greeted with a friendly voice that told us to sit anywhere we wanted. Within seconds the waitress bought us bowls of chips and sauce and asked us what we wanted to drink. All within 3 minutes of entering the restaurant. We had a wide selection of items in the menu, all which tasted wonderful and dish sizes were more than enough for any adult.
They even made a special request of a couple of items we wanted for the 18 month old we had in our group.
If you're interested in a great Mexican restaurant experience in this town, El Faro should be your first and only...
