I stayed there for two consecutive weeks. I found the rooms to be very large, but I did think that they were a tad dated. The bathrooms were incredibly small, and had a sort of unclean feel to them. I could tell that they had recently been cleaned but because they've been used for so many years you could tell that the tub needed completely replaced. The shampoo and conditioner and soap provided were mediocre and very basic. You can tell that a lot of the fixtures were retrofitted. The lights in the room, those were all plugins and not actually wired directly into the system. That meant that there were far fewer plugins for my items. One of the plugins did have to USB ports on it which I utilize, the other side of the bed though had two sockets one of which was for the light and one was for the alarm clock and I had to unplug both to be able to charge my phone and speaker at the same time. The TV was almost infuriating to use and had far fewer channels than I was expecting. It was so very slow to even turn up the volume because of the proprietary system that was put on it. I'm sure it would be super useful if I was actually purchasing films and programming, but I didn't. You have to go through an entire startpage to get to the guide. While I appreciate that the guide was clickable, it was very slow to load and slow to change channels and move between. I appreciated that there was a second sink, albeit very very small, but it was there and it was quite nice. The coffee maker was very small and old. The stoneware mugs were quite nice although it made it hard to convince myself to brew coffee in the morning when I couldn't actually take the cup with me. The desk had no Outlets other than the ones next to the TV and the light was a very very white which made it less than useful for working at. The carpets and wall hangings were all very dated including the couch which was also very dated. Throw pillows are a nice touch and I would have preferred a coffee table to the plush ottoman that they provided. The breakfast was touted as premium ingredients, and while I don't necessarily doubt that I don't think that it was actually that substantial. Almost every day it was some mixture of bacon eggs French toast and oatmeal or yogurt of some kind. Sometimes they had add on such as Banana Foster or fresh berries. Those were always quite nice to use. I also really appreciated that they had a wide selection of milks and teas in the morning. The coffee was fairly good but there was a fairly good chance that the normal regular coffee would be out or very nearly out in the morning. The staff was always very pleasant and helpful. Overall it was a fairly decent stay and had some nice amenities. Although there were a lot of things that I thought needed to be updated and needed to be changed. I think of this location got an overhaul to bring it up to Snuff with the rest of the Hyatts it...
Read moreOne busy weekend, there were literally no other hotels available, but as luck would have it there’s availability, and at a Hyatt Place no less!
The first sign that this is no regular Hyatt Place is the tarp creatively draped over the Sonesta Select sign, which has an oddly fitting effect when lit at night, overlaying the “Hyatt Place” over “Sonesta Select” because you’re about to walk into a Sonesta Select with a pinch of Hyatt. (Full disclosure, I’ve never stayed a a Sonesta Select before and hopefully never will, but have stayed at other Hyatt Places.)
Wait, have you just been transported into a nail salon? No, silly, the smell of nail polish remover is just the signature scent of the lobby. The lovely receptionist isn’t there to check you in for your pedicure, and the blingy Target throw pillows aren’t just a cute personal touch from Lin the manicurist. But just like your favorite salon the lady up front is lovely and nice indeed as she checks you in.
The elevator has passed inspection, the manager swears it, according to the posted sign. Wait, you want to see the certificate posted in the purpose built display like normal elevators? That would be so boring.
What I’ve come to understand about Hyatt Place after staying at a few is that no matter which one you stay at, for better or worse it’s exactly the same. Not so here, at Sonesta Place.
The room itself is large, as expected of a Hyatt Place. The bathroom is tiny, also as expected. Desk is simple and big enough, as expected. The lack of food options, as expected. Spunky and nice front desk staff, as expected. Furniture and room layout, carbon copy as expected. Spotty housekeeping? Kinda expected.
The quaint peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, rusting fixtures and scotch tape holding the tv remote together? Not expected, but a fitting representation of the entire venue.
Good luck Hyatt Place, I have no idea how you got 4 stars on Google, but eyes of the beholder and all. I do hope it gets...
Read moreI have never stayed at a Hyatt hotel. I have been a reward member since 2020. I always thought their hotels were too expensive so, when I ran across this one with a king room price of $80, I decided to try it out. What a disappointment. |The hotel has obviously been remodeled or was previously the property of another brand. My first clue was when I noticed that a canvas Hyatt sign had been strapped over the previous owner’s sign. The room furnishings were very old. The carpet was worn in a few places and I noticed gathered dust around the wall edges. The television was no way modern. It may have been several years ago but not now. There were a few channels that would not tune in, snowy. |A major concern was the floor of the tub. The floor of the tub would sink in when you walked on it. This caused me to almost fall a few times while showering. The A/C, which is mounted under the window, struggled to keep the farthest areas of the room cool, I,m glad it was close to the bed. |The room had a small wet bar, a large desk that had an adjustable table light that looked as if it was about twenty years old, and an older L shaped couch. The room did not have adequate electrical outlets. There was only one on one side of this large couch, causing me to use an extension cord to plug in anything if I was sitting on the other end of the couch. |The free breakfast was not much to talk about. Throughout this hotel were several items that were not working, had out of order signs attached to them. The floor we were on had an out of order sign on the ice machine saying get ice from the front desk. I did this and the agent put the ice in a gallon sized ziplock bag. There were numerous holes in walls throughout where old phones and phone lines had been removed...
