I stayed here with my girlfriend during her first US trip with me. Since Elvis is such a big slice of Americana, Tupelo had to be one of the places we’d visit. To save money, we decided (well, really it was my idea!) to stay in one of the “motor inns” that can be of hit-or-miss quality. So we happen upon Scottish Inn around 1 am after a long drive from Asheville, NC. It does not look like anything exceptional from the outside, but it turned out to be an decent place for the price. The a/c was cold, the shower was hot (a real highlight), and we parked right outside our room door. The only downside is that the top cover on the bed seemed to be a bit dirty, and the room smelled a bit of smoke. But these were not deal breakers. For the price it is a great value and the area is safe. Elvis would probably have been glad to stay here before he made it big. Keep in mind that my perspective is based partly upon being ok with some of the Spartan room in the remote parts of Ethiopia. :)a||||As an aside, if you want to have a real authentic experience, have breakfast at Shockley’s. It is an old school breakfast house that is an excellent alternative to the Waffle House / Denny’s /...
Read moreHorribly disappointed. First, it's located in a rather dark, sketchy area. Very little lighting. Second, the website says "contenental brrakfast". Nope. That was the whole reason I chose this one over another similarly priced hotel. When I called the front desk (on several different occasions), no one answered the phone. Eventually, I called from my personal phone and they answered first ring. When I asked about the breakfast she became rude and said that they don't have one. Third, the vending machines are either empty or broken. Fourth, the non-smoking room still smelled of smoke. Lastly, when we were checking in, there was a couple fighting outside. (Like she took her shoes off and was threatening this guy's life...). I told the front desk and he did nothing. They continued to stand out there screaming at each other for quite a while. GO...
Read moreScottish Inn - Flea-infested towel and rug. This place needs fumigation/extermination. For the price, it would have been a decent place to stay with the king-sized bed, micro-fridge, microwave, TV, toilet, and functioning shower; but the more than 40+ exceedingly itchy flea bites all over my arms, back, thighs, chest, fingers, toes, legs, knees, elbows, and rear made for a horrible experience. Never again. The place is in need of repair: bathroom door unscrewed from the hinge, mold in the shower, broken shower door clasp, loosely fitted front and rear egress doors making outside traffic noise audible. On the high point, the king-size bed was quite...
