Mixed review on this place due to our experience each day. Worth reading if you enjoy a peaceful breakfast each morning, you will not get it here. Our family stayed here for 6 nights over spring break. Great convenient location to everything. Front desk staff and management were very friendly and helpful. The frustrating thing that overwhelmingly agitated us every morning was an employee working in the breakfast area. I have stayed at many different Marriott properties around the world and U.S., but never have I witnessed an employee treat guests and families the way their one employee did every morning. This behavior was so odd, you can’t make this stuff up. My first interaction with her was when I was about to make a waffle in their waffle maker and she ran up and grabbed the cup out of my hand and tells me that I’m doing it wrong and there’s too much waffle batter in the cup, proceeds to tell me that this will create a mess that she will have to clean up. I bit my tongue and didn’t say a word, even though I’ve been making waffles with these machines probably longer than she’s been alive. When it was done she was hovering over the machine and didn’t want me to get MY food out of it, so I walked over and I looked at her and said - I can get it, she huffed and turned around and stormed off. It wasn’t just me though, she did this for everybody trying to make a waffle no matter what age. Meanwhile she’s not paying attention to the fact that the eggs and other items were empty, being too worried about directing people how get food. It was borderline rudeness and I could tell it agitated a lot of guests, by the look on their faces other guests were feeling the same way about this that we were. This was just the beginning of our daily agitating experience with this worker. A few minutes later she comes into what was a nice quiet dining area, and yells this “ok ladies and gentlemen, we are going to play a game, it’s called help me help you, the way you play this game is that you take your paper products to the trash can over there and leave the plates and silverware for me, I don’t want to throw away your paper products this is your job!” We were all in disbelief. We really like to start our mornings with a quiet relaxing breakfast where we can sit and sip our coffee and be greeted and treated nicely by staff, but this was on another level of insanity. It happened EVERY morning, to the point where we stopped spending much time there, ate and left as fast as possible. It’s not the way to start your day when on vacation. Very surprised management let this occur but they seemed unphased by it. Even when we were getting regular food items, she was hovering over us and all other guests every morning barking orders, to which I tried my best to ignore so I could have a moment of ease in the morning. This behavior never slowed down or changed, each morning until the day we left. It left us sour on this location, and we would definitely look to stay elsewhere on the next trip to DC. 4 stars overall bc you can’t punish an entire location for one persons...
Read moreI can say that I had a wonderful 3 weeks stay at the Residence Inn Dupont Circle! Tera was simply the best, always smiling and willing to help and answer my questions. Having breakfast, dinner and wi-fi included in my rate was very practical, which definitely influenced in my choice for this hotel - of course, other details like the room size and kitchen were very helpful.
I would be happy to give a 10 for the perfect service, if it was not by the situation I faced on my check-out. I was given the room bill in my room, so no problems there. But when I went down to ask for a separate copy of the bill, showing only the room rates (not including personal phone calls, laundry or food), it took around 10 minutes for the receptionist to issue it.
After 10 minutes waiting for the "copy", he told me he had cancelled the bill I got in my room because that was the only way to do issue my copy. That meant that he cancelled the charge to my credit card (although I never got a cancellation receipt) and I ended up paying in cash.
The strangest thing about all this is that he actually gave me back $1.94, in cash, because he said when he generated the copy to me, the "system" considered this actual amount...so, in fact, I paid in cash more than the first bill I got in my room, and he gave this change to me in cash.
When I asked for an explanation, the receptionist had a hard time explaining - because there was no explanation. And he completed saying that my card was definitely cancelled, because Marriott had no interest in charging me $42 twice, since Marriott has millions of dollars...
I thought the whole check-out process was unnecessary, as I only asked for a simple task - I wanted room rates separated from the rest. The receptionist was unable to perform this simple task and still blamed me because I should have mentioned this on check-in - which I did.
So, for this reason, unfortunately, I can't give you a 10. I really enjoyed my stay and, when back in DC, would definitely stay at Dupont...
Read moreThe Residence Inn Dupont was the best long term stay I've had. I arranged a long stay for an international exchange program and Lawrence Jones (Director of Sales) was communicative and accommodating from the reservation, to the stay, and finally closeout.
Logistics: They helped ensure we met my organization's compliance needs, swiftly answered questions I had, and easily made adjustments to our reservation of a large group.
Rooms: Our stay was incredible. Rooms were clean and a great size. We stayed in studios but did not feel crammed at all. There was a workspace, large couch, dining table, large bed, and large bathroom space. With the cooking equipment, we were even able to do a potluck, eating in the space downstairs! It was a wonderful retreat after a long day. Wifi also functioned well.
Food: Breakfast staff were always kind and welcoming in the mornings. There was a variety of food options that made for an inclusive environment for those with food allergies or restrictions (vegan, lactose, etc.).
Front Desk: Staff were always responsive and friendly. When folks had questions, wanted suggestions, etc. the staff warmly engaged. They made it feel like they were genuinely happy to see us, which is just what we need as we start our day!
Location: This hotel is a short walk to the red line which brings you close to museums and everything. It is also around many great restaurants, cafes, a 24 hour CVS, and night life. It felt safe and well-populated.
I wanted to give a shoutout to all those we engaged with on our stay.
