My boyfriend and I stayed at Ven Embassy Row for his birthday. We booked the King City View LARGER Room for our stay, and we realized that the TV chromecast was not working as soon as we got our room. We had to walk back down to the lobby since the phone was not working.
The front desk assured that a technician was going to come up to fix it. A few minutes later we were told by the technician it wasn’t possible to fix the TV at the moment. We went back to the front desk and requested that we get moved to another City View LARGER room since we really wanted to watch TV. To our surprise, we were moved into a much smaller room (King City View PETITE Room) which is cheaper than the room we paid for.
After bringing the issue to the front desk, they told us that they were going to make our reservation right when we returned from our outing. We agreed, thanked them and left. Upon our return, the front desk acted like they didn’t recall what we were taking about when stating we were told we were to get a bigger room. We immediately asked for a manager. The front desk Assistant Manager MR FASSIL GHEBRE told us that they were going to take care of the situation and give us a bigger room the next day and complimentary give us breakfast and move our baggage for us into the KING City View LARGER room.
The next day before going out, we packed our stuff and left them by the door to make it easier for the hotel workers to move our stuff. Upon our return back to the hotel, we realized our room keys were de-activated. We went back to the front desk to see where our new room was. We went to the new room which was the same petite room as before and put baggage had not been moved. At this point, we are frustrated. My boyfriend went down to ask for a refund for the difference between two rooms (LARGER ROOM & PETITE ROOM). Another manager told us they are going to refund us and we should get a receipt at the end of our stay
Upon checking out, we went to the front desk to check out and obtain our receipt. The front desk receptionist acted like they didn’t know what we’re talking about AGAIN. We immediately requested for a manager again and EVENTUALLY ended up getting our refund.
The hotel was nice but the service was not the best. We will never stay at this hotel again. Overall the hotel is not a four star. The air conditioning unit is very loud and does not work properly. The website said we would receive robes yet no robes were in any of the rooms. The breakfast was subpar. I’m glad we didn’t have...
Read moreWe stayed at The Ven for July 4 weekend.||It has been a number of years since I had stayed at the property but it appears in many respects that things have continued to improve since the days of Covid when service was at a minimum.||I requested two rooms with two queen beds plus a rollaway for the second room. Although the rollaway was not ready upon our late night arrival staff at the hotel was quick to rectify the problem and even apologised by email the following day for not having everything ready at the time about arrival.||Titanium guests who pick the breakfast option will find the restaurant vastly improved since 2020/2021.||Although there are continental options such as pastries, fruit and cereal, there are also plenty of hot options from an à la carte menu which the Titanium breakfast amenity credit goes towards. Each voucher is supposed to only be worth $15 per person but our server did not charge for anything during our entire stay and we were a party of nine in total!||It was an impressively generous way to treat Titanium guests and it really saved us a huge amount of money for a bunch of hungry adults and children each morning.||Each day, waters were replaced in the room, and although the bathrooms are a little threadbare, the shower was decent enough and my request for extra towels in the room every morning was fulfilled without me having to continually request extra.||The hotel is in a decent location around the corner from CVS Pharmacy and the DuPont Circle Metro stop. There is also a nice, but small rooftop pool with a decent view over the area. In the basement there is also a fun games room for kids to run around and play air hockey and pool.||There is also parking right next to the hotel which also accepts Spot Hero for those that don’t want to pay the exorbitant hotel parking charges.||The staff were friendly during our three days stay and they seemed to get to know us at least on a surface level.||There are many Bonvoy options to choose from in Washington DC, but The Ven does offer the perfect combination of...
Read moreHad one of the worst work-travel experiences I've ever had- and I travel a lot for work. I typically stick to Bonvoy properties as they are consistently reliable.
I was a part of a group of 8 Federal Employees who all booked here. Two days prior to arrival, 5 of our group had their reservations cancelled - some via email and some simply on the app with no proactive notification. When contacted, managers absolutely refused to assist with locating other accommodations ("We're telling you in advance so you can find other accommodations"). They explained that they oversold the hotel by 40 rooms (!!).
My reservation was not cancelled; likely because I have Bonvoy Gold status which requires that they re-accommodate if a reservation is cancelled - and cover any cost difference. Our group was stunned by the lack of concern and assistance provided by management. When I checked in, the desk clerk commented (after spending 5 minutes looking for a room in their system) that I was "lucky" to have a room. One of my peers, who also was not cancelled, was placed in a room that had a pull-out couch as his "queen" bed. Upon check out, the clerk said to him "Oh you pulled the short straw, we actively avoid using that room". What hotel even has a room that solely has a pull out couch as the only bed??? (oh, apparently The Ven does -8th floor by the way)
I booked 6 weeks in advance; using FedRooms. My room was guaranteed - but apparently: I was lucky? Well, "more lucky" than 5 of my co-workers who also booked via FedRooms 6 weeks in advance.
After checking into my room, I wished mine had been cancelled as well - so not so lucky. There were water stains and peeling plaster on ceiling (see picture); and what appeared to be mold on the ceiling near HVAC vent; and the mirror in bathroom was very damaged and looked terrible.
Fellow Federal Employees, Military Personnel, and anyone else: If you have an option - look elsewhere. DC has many superior options.
And to Bonvoy - this place does not live up to your...
