I have stayed here often. The property grounds are beautiful and the property exudes charm from a past era. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful and staying here, for me, is almost like coming home.
The property does, however show its age in some areas. The bathrooms near the Cork and Cleaver have that aged grout around the sinks that can give you the willies. The bathrooms, in general, have that aged feel with things that all have their own quirks. Sinks with stoppers that don't close or won't stay open, etc.
I usually stay in the buildings farthest from the office. I love how roomy they are, the wooden towel holders, a sink with drawers and pull out shelves, a closet that could almost be a room with a table for luggage or folding, the private porch with the view of the golf course is large with chairs and a table (oh, what I would do for a rocking chair on that porch), with screen doors, some with a rock to hold the door open.
The room also has a counter with a sink, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, and a large mirror giving all another location to get ready if the bathroom is occupied. Not sure why the coffee maker is placed where it cannot reach an outlet, but I move it to the desk right next to the counter and problem solved. The 2nd floor has a valted ceiling with a ceiling fan, the beds are comfy, and the thermostat easy to use and accessible. I love that the rooms also have 2 chairs that make the room feel more like a studio apartment; "kitchen", bedroom, living room, and outdoor "veranda".
I have only stayed between September and early April, but I look forward to enjoying more of the beautiful blooming grounds during the summer, I am sure the room will stay cool and I hope to enjoy the rocking chairs in back of the main building while watching the...
Read moreI've stayed here twice and both visits were satisfactory but the last trip earned a 3-star review. Check-in was easy and friendly. Depending on which building you end up staying in your visit will have a different level of experience. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and the servers are very friendly and laid back. The food is of mass produced catering quality, neither great nor terrible.
In our most recent trip we stayed in the Fairway building which is older and a little more run down that the main building. The room featured an old tube TV and had no fan in the bathroom, both of which really surprised me. For the bathroom, it has a heater on a timer which acts as a fan, but the idea of having to use the bathroom in the summer with heat blasting down your back is shockingly absurd. It seems like a nice feature for the winter but at least disengage it for the rest of the year.
Also, their wifi is TERRIBLE. Very poor coverage and slow connection speed. Furthermore you have to type in the password to connect to each individual hotspot, depending on which one has the strongest strength relative to your location, using a WEP encryption system, which makes for a 10-digit password (fairly easy to remember but still.... WEP? REALLY?) I had to connect manually to 6 different hotspots, none of which reached into my room well enough to use. After a half hour of trying I eventually gave up and used my mobile data for the rest of the trip. Any decent IT consultant could set them up with a state-of-the-art Ubiquiti system for the price of a one week stay.
Overall I would go back since it has a convenient location and the main complaints are all First World problems, but for the amount of $ they bring in ALL of these issues should be easy and...
Read moreBeware! Depending on the time of season you go, you may freeze! Apparently they had not turned the heat on and the weather changed. There were no signs posted about the thermostats not working. I turned it up to 90 to try and warm up the room to no avail. It got below 60 in the room during the night. When I complained in the morning I was informed I could have asked for a space heater. I was also told this is the way it is every year. How are first time guests supposed to know this? They have info in the rooms about other policies, they should inform guests about the heating and air situation, if you read other reviews it seems the ac is also an issue. I have never stayed anywhere where you couldn’t control the heat or air in a room. What they couldn’t explain to me was why the halls and common areas were warm but my room was not. The front desk staff made me feel like it was my fault for not calling late at night for assistance. Why would I do that when I was already ready for bed? I didn’t want to deal with the possibility of having to move. I just hoped the heat would kick on at some point. If you read through the low reviews you will get an accurate picture of this Inn. I could point out many other issues but that has been done by others. It is older, not your typical “resort and spa”. They need to invest in updating. There is too much competition out there now with amazing Airbnb’s, bed and breakfasts, and hotels. I give it two stars instead of one because the food they served for a wedding reception was amazing and the staff that served that...
