Let me preface this by saying that I will always choose a Drury Inn when available. For this trip, the Drury was booked. So we chose this Hampton as generally this chain is our backup choice. We chose this one based on location. We had stuff planned downtown but didn't want to pay those prices. So this was close enough and there were also good restaurant choices nearby (Mellow Mushroom being one). Check in was easy! I did the online check in and chose the room myself. I thought that was cool. This looked like an older Hampton that had been remodeled. But I'm really not sure. The room was nice and clean. My biggest issue was the lack of lighting in the main area of the room. I need one if not two more lamps! The hot water too forever to come in the shower. I'm not exaggerating. Our last morning there I thought I wasn't going to get hot water and it was a good thing we were just driving home. I eventually got it and once that happens the shower is just fine.
The other issue with the room was the temperature. I like to sleep cold and we cranked the AC down as low as it would go - 65. It must be rigged or not be accurate. It was NOT cold at all. I got really hot at night and I brought my own fan. If that room was really 65 degrees there's no way I'd be throwing off the covers. I wouldn't want to get out of the covers in the morning if it was really that cold. Something was not right with the AC and I was often very hot at night.
The breakfast left a lot to be desired. Everything was cold the first morning. Cold eggs are nasty. They also seemed hard pressed to keep up with keeping the food stocked during breakfast. The choices were fine and just as expected. One morning we had breakfast at 9 - 3 hours after they started and they still didn't have stuff out, like the cream cheese and butter. So that was rather odd. The employee was nice, but he seemed overwhelmed. This hotel doesn't have a hot tub, if that's a requirement. We didn't check beforehand and had time to use a hot tub, but there wasn't one. Honestly though the pool ares was SUPER hot and the amount of chlorine was overwhelming. I'm not sure I would have lasted 5 mins in the pool area without getting a headache from the smell. The fitness room was small but well kept and acceptable. I used it twice in a 3 night stay. There wasn't any sanitizing spray to wipe the machines down though. That was missing. Overall it was just an OK experience. We would likely choose the same area next time, but a different hotel. This just wasn't quite up to what we expected nor what we've experienced at...
Read moreThis was my second stay, and I will start by saying the service is excellent. The ONLY hiccup we ran into was a dead bed bug resting on top our bedspread upon entering the room. I examined the rest of the bed and there was no other evidence of an infestation. However, we still reported it to the front desk who put us in a upgraded suite for the rest of our stay and took the first night off the bill. The gentleman at the front desk asked us to photograph the bug and email to the manager so the issue could promptly addressed. From that point on our stay was wonderful, and we honestly could find no evidence at all of an ongoing bed bug problem. For my remaining compliments, free bottled water is offered at the front desk in a small pantry area that is stocked with other drinks and snacks for purchase. The complimentary breakfast is generally good. House keeping leaves a basket of fresh towels and toiletries outside your door if you have your "Do not disturb sign" on the door or simply elect not to utilize cleaning services that day. Rooms are spacious and accommodating with a small refrigerator, microwave, small kitchen type sink, coffee maker and basic coffee and tea supplies. There is an indoor, heated pool which is relatively small and without a lifeguard, but still sufficient for exercise or for the kiddos to burn off some energy. Don't worry about pool towels, they are stocked by the pool! I didn't view the exercise equipment or any conference or event facilities, but as a family traveling and staying for leisure, our experience was overall satisfactory. We would have no issues recommending this hotel and plan to stay again the next time we are...
Read moreThis was the third time in three years we have stayed at this hotel for the Great Ohio Toy Show nearby in Xenia. For the first time, the indoor pool was completely unusable. The water was so cold that my daughter's teeth were chattering when she tried to swim. When I spoke to the front desk clerk, he seemed surprised and stated no one had mentioned it to him previously. He also stated the pool is not "heated" and the water temp would likely stay in the 70s. I find it highly unlikely that no other families complained to staff, as the hotel was full of kids in town for softball, baseball and basketball tournaments and none of the families we encountered in the pool area were happy or satisfied. This was the first year the pool was not heated, seemingly at all. The past two years, with MUCH colder March weather outside, the pool was warm and comfortable to use. For us, being able to swim at night is a required amenity, and I will absolutely be price shopping at the other nearby Hilton properties when we return for the fall toy show. It's really too bad, too, because otherwise the hotel is great. The rooms are clean, the free breakfast is well appointed, and it is in a great location. I would rather pay more money to stay at a different hotel than stay here again at a lower price but without one of the main amenities we...
