I have stayed at Arrive Wilmington many times, however this was a different experience. We were placed in suite 25. Middle of the night a mechanical noise, sounding like an engine rev up, sounded every 10 seconds. It kept me up for hours and ultimately woke my husband. Management acted as if it were the first they heard of such a thing, and suggested it may be a lamp post (even though the problem has been mentioned in reviews.)|They wanted to come into the room to hear it. I explained that the sound was not coming from the room. Next day we looked at the roof and saw a huge air handler or some equipment directly above our room. They offered a 40% discount for the night. We asked to be moved and it took them until 11:30 the next day to move us as we waited around wasting a good part of our vacation day. They should have acknowledged the obvious problem, provided more in the way of compensation for this awful night, and worked more quickly to move us. Also-- fix the da gum thing and don't put people in that unit until you do. Next night was not much better due to drunks yelling outside the window for about an hour. The rates are ridiculously high on weekend nights and the extra $15 a night charge for one drink ticket is just a way to make the visit more expensive and adds nothing. So, I don't know that I will be back, which is sad because it really was a cool little...
Read moreFirst, the hotel itself is very cute and full of historic character. However, I wasn’t expecting to walk up two full flights of stairs as there’s no elevator due to the building’s age. It’s a beautiful old structure, but something to keep in mind if mobility or convenience is important to you.
Our unit had a few issues—most notably, the lights went out for about 30 minutes, which was frustrating. Also, our room was located right next to the building’s vents or HVAC system, which made it incredibly loud throughout the night. Unfortunately, that meant very little sleep.
Now for the highlight: John, the bartender at the outdoor bar. He was absolutely incredible and truly the saving grace of our stay. He doesn’t just pour drinks—he crafts them based on your personal tastes. After asking a few thoughtful questions, he whipped up one-of-a-kind cocktails that were perfectly tailored to us. It’s no wonder locals come by just to see him and enjoy his creations. These weren’t drinks out of a menu—he was making them up on the spot, and they were some of the best I’ve ever had.
All in all, while the accommodations had a few drawbacks, John’s hospitality and talent made the experience memorable. If ARRIVE is smart, they’ll do everything they can to keep him around—he’s a true asset...
Read moreStayed in Room 25 on Friday, August 1. In the middle of the night started hearing a surging sound like a generator muffler in which the engine was surging. Texted the hotel staff who wanted to come in room in middle of night to try and identify. It was obvious it was coming from above. Next morning I walked to building across from us and AC unit right over our room. You could not sleep in this room with this noise. An AC running was not the problem but some kind of defective mechanical issue with constant loud surging noise. Looked up reviews and saw where Alexis Marrs had same issue, among others, one year earlier. Obviously, this is a known problem with the hotel. Staff moved us downstairs next morning under Room 25. You could still hear the surging noise but not as loud on bottom floor. We've stayed at Arrive a number of times and not had this problem. I would not recommend this hotel until this issue is addressed and resolved. It's unconscionable they would put you in such a room. I will attempt to attach pictures showing the prior review, roof top, and room number. The next night there were many drunks outside the window on the street at 2:30 a.m. for an extended period of time. For $400 a night not much sleep. A very...
