This was our fourth stay at Cobblestone Inn & Suites in Winterset, Iowa. We go to Winterset for the Heartland Fiberpalooza which we greatly enjoy. We had never stayed at a Cobblestone Inn before and will never stay anywhere else unless Cobblestone isn't available. The staff is very friendly. The property is inviting, and it is clean and comfortable. They even accommodated my request to have the same King room we had the last couple of years. The only thing that was different from last year was the food in the lounge Friday night. Last year it was just convenient to get a hamburger and grilled cheese and fries, and they were quite good. However, this year we both got grilled cheese, and they were not so hot. One piece of cheese between two slices of bread that was crispy but could tell there wasn't any butter on it to help it toast and the cheese was not very melted. I did not tell the attendant we had had food in the lounge before, but she did tell me that it was microwavable food, so I appreciate her honesty. But I thought it was good last year so what could have changed? Well, something did as both items were prepared in an oven and not on a grill. Needless to say, next year we won't be eating the lounge food Friday night for supper. However, the morning breakfast has always been incredible, and it was again this year. Their scrambled eggs, sausage and waffles are fantastic along with very hot coffee and two different types of juice offerings. They also have toast, bagels, cereal (cold and hot), and fruit available. It is a very clean and well-kept food area. I hate to even say anything about the lounge food Friday night because we still enjoyed our stay, love the atmosphere, and will definitely...
Read moreBooked my room on May 22. Showed up on June 29th to check in and was told that the hotel was over sold and they did not have a room for me. I was in town for a wedding, the bride had put this hotel as recommend for out of town guests. I was never informed that I would not have a room. The manager would not call me. This was not a last minute booking. Very disappointed in property management decision not to contact me before the event so that I could make different accommodations. This property does not care about its customers. Don’t support this establishment. I had to give it one star...doesn’t deserve one star! In response to the reply- I asked that the manager of the property to call so that I could figure out where the breakdown of communication happened. I wanted to know when Expedia was informed of the over booking and when the hotel knew of the over booking. The manager still never called as I had asked them to. I still rate them poor in customer relations. Even if the issue is not your fault, you still need to communicate to customers when asked. Of course, you really don’t care or you would be helping me sort this out with Expedia. Take a course in...
Read moreWould have given a higher rating but they need to pay attention to their breakfast offerings before they cause folks to become ill. Appears the staff wear multi hats which causes some lack of quality. The staff go 100% out of their way to accommodate the guests. Rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. If you offer a lounge that serves food and beverages ensure you have a person devoted to that as well as breakfast. Ensure eggs are hot and are stirred to stay warm. Don't put so much eggs in the warmer and just walk away without coming back to check that they are staying warm and fresh. Bagels were at least 3 days old. Dear Manager. I changed my rating to 4. But wanted you to know it wasn't that you had a bad breakfast selection. It was a comment to say you need to be careful in preparation of your eggs and stuffing the warmer plum full so the eggs get cold. Put less in and stir often don't just leave them alone without going back to...
