When I pulled up to the hotel, the outside looked incredible. The reception area was beautiful and the inside and conference areas look brand new. Then I got to the elevators. The main hotel portion looked dated compared to the front, reception and conference areas of the hotel. The keyless door locks, TV and bed seemed to be the best part to my room. The bed that was extremely comfortable and seemed much larger than a king size. At 6 feet 7 inches I had ample room in the bed. There was a refrigerator tucked away which was also a very pleasant surprise. The check in process with Hilton Honors was extremely quick and with no human interaction from check in to check out, was absolutely fantastic. There were a very few handicap parking spots by reception. More were available on the sides where you may want to consider parking as it might be closer to your room. If you use the Hilton Honors app on your smartphone (not sure if it’s on Android) you can bypass reception and use your iPhone as the key to the back hotel entrances as well as your room key. You can also view the hotel layout on the app making it easy to find your room and knowing where to park. The extreme problem for me was that I could hear the people in the next room all night through the awful walls. From at least (since I was woken) 10:30 pm to 4:30 am. They were extremely loud and through the wall, they sounded like they were in my room. Also upon arriving I laid down to rest and their were kids running down the hallway screaming. I could also hear adults laughing loudly. As an autistic person I feel extremely uncomfortable anxiety asking people to quiet down or calling the front desk for help. Besides the fact that I shouldn’t have to ask in the first place. People should just be courteous of others. Since I couldn’t sleep I decided to make my way home very early. I was told on the app that I had to go to the main reception area to check out. The receptionist was extremely nice and asked how my stay was. I explained and also explained I was autistic and she asked if I called the front desk. I explained that I felt uncomfortable doing that and she understood without any questions. Amazing to feel comfortable whilst talking with a stranger. She apologized several times, and even took a small portion of the bill of my stay. The receptionist made my morning wonderful by being that kind. As well as the comfortable bed, these were the only good things about my stay. The entire reason I chose this specific hotel was being a Hilton Honors member as well as no human interaction. The human interaction was a must because of leaving so early in the morning. So that’s completely understandable. The problems I encountered while staying here, I recommend finding another hotel to...
Read moreI just wasted over 15 minutes of my time attempting to find an email address for this hotel so I could speak with someone before writing this public review; however, I didn't have any luck when searching Google, Hotels.com, or the website page itself (including customer service). I didn't even bother calling because the phone has only ever been picked up once in my multiple attempts calling in the past (which is one of the many reasons I'm writing this review).
I had to come to this hotel for a funeral. It was already a stressful situation and the unkind experience I had here certainly made a painful experience worse.
I attempted to call multiple times to find out more information on the airport shuttle. Customer service FAQs for Double Tree, the specific location page, or hotels.com did not have any information about the shuttle other than there was a shuttle. I was finally able to get through to someone at the front desk after my plane landed. The person answering my call was extremely rude (i.e. "I have a question about the shuttle." "Okay?---what?"), kept putting me on hold, and then hung up on me without any information. As I said before, this was a stressful time and after that, I got in a cab and paid an astronomical $80 to get to the hotel---I had a viewing to get to and didn't have time to keep calling! Then, I was met with more unpleasantness when I checked in.
Another family member stayed at this location and received a bereavement discount. I did not, even when I mentioned that I was in for a funeral.
At the hotel restaurant, we encountered additional rude staff at dinner. First, we had to ask for menus. Then, my order was incorrect. Two of us got the same order, but we only received one. This could be an understandable mistake, but when I tried to correct it I was interrupted. i.e. "Hi, we both ordered a salad and---" "I got it." The server gave me another bowl instead of my order. In another (but not the last) example of rudeness, my family member asked for a beer and the server responded with "okay?! what?" and my uncle asked "what kind do you have?" and the response the server gave was "okay, I have like ten. So what do you want?"
The only thing that made it even slightly worth the money was how clean the room was. The cleaning/maintenance personnel were incredibly kind.
I regret staying here and I will certainly not be staying in the future when I am visiting family in Chicago (even though this hotel is close to their house). I paid the extra money because of the hotel shuttle, but I didn't even get to use it for my arrival. I do not recommend.
If anyone looks at my previous reviews, this is the first negative review I've ever written, which shows my significant dissatisfaction...
Read moreFirst I will preface this as the front desk folks were truly very kind and attentive. However, this was the worst experience I have ever had, and as a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I expected far better. Let me explain: I arrived on a Wednesday, and by about 2am I had little sleep as the ac/heating unit when it cycled sounded like a Harley Davidson was parked in my room. I went to the desk in the morning to explain as was told that this would be fixed immediately. When I came back to the room on Thursday, it hadn't been touched. I was explaining my plight to a kind member of the front desk, a man dressed like the janitor kept interrupting the other person working at the desk telling her he needed a package. She continued to help another customer...Kudos to her! He then came around the front desk and as I continued to discuss a solution with the member of the front desk who had changed my room. the "manager" continued to interrupt our conversation. I explained to him how rude he was and he just continued with no added value to his non-solution. The elevators are dank, and hold only 3 people with luggage. Creaking and shuddering as they slowly move to your floor. No certificate of inspection (not sure about Illinois law) which added to the already disturbing ride. While the lobby and event rooms are inviting, the upper floors are dark and in desperate need of revamping. There are elevators midway in the hallway. These operate from about 2am-5am consistently with a loud creaking noise that disturb at least 4 rooms on each side of the hallway. No sleep for these folks for sure! Security certainly is an issue. When I looked outside Sunday morning from my room to the parking lot, I was entertained by three people smoking crack. There is only on member of the cleaning staff for all of the rooms. Really. The hallways smell of cigarette smoke and marijuana. A lovely scent for a Hilton property. After everything else, I did have one happy note. Based on the aesthetics alone, I expected to find bed bugs, but was pleased that there weren't any.
I have spent more than 6 months at Hilton hotels this year. My expectations are a clean room, a safe property, helpful staff, and an environment for which I feel I am getting a good value for my dollars. This was an unfortunate experience that actually made me review as to whether or not I wanted to remain a Hilton customer.
I could go on, but I won't. This place was an absolute disaster. I was there on a business trip, and I will ensure that this property no longer is recommended to others within our company. Calling it a dump is the...
