Review of Hilton Garden Inn Montevideo – Anniversary Stay
We truly enjoyed our experience at the Hilton Garden Inn Montevideo. I chose this hotel for our anniversary night based on its great reviews, and it definitely lived up to them in many ways.
From the moment we arrived, the staff stood out for their kindness and helpfulness. They even supported me with the surprises I had planned for my wife, which made the occasion extra special. The premises were clean, well maintained, and inviting. Our room (1602, on the 16th floor) offered a beautiful view of the city and sunrise—perfect for a romantic stay. Breakfast was another highlight, with plenty of variety. Although we had little time to enjoy the pool, it looked inviting and well designed.
The hotel’s location is also a huge plus. Being directly connected to Montevideo Shopping is very convenient, offering easy access to shops, dining options, cinema, and even theater. The surrounding neighborhood has great restaurants as well; we particularly enjoyed dinner at Piso 40, which is literally next door. For those who like a walk by the water, the Rambla and Puertito del Buceo are within walking distance—an ideal bonus.
As for the room itself, it was cozy and comfortable, with especially good pillows that helped us rest well.
Why not 5 stars yet? While our overall stay was wonderful, there are some areas for improvement that would make the experience truly outstanding:
Room comfort: The air conditioning was quite noisy and may need maintenance. The balcony door did not seal properly, allowing strong wind noise and some cold air into the room.
Bathroom experience: The shower pressure and water flow were weak, making it less enjoyable and even difficult at times. We noticed a similar issue with the pool shower, which may point to a general water pressure problem in the building.
Breakfast details: While options were varied, the presentation of certain items could be improved. For example, the chia pudding was served in one large bowl and didn’t look very appealing; individual glasses with fruit and granola would make it more attractive. The scrambled eggs also lacked flavor, which is a missed opportunity given how central eggs are to a good breakfast.
Pool cleanliness: The pool area was pleasant, but we noticed several clumps of hair floating in the water, which affected the experience.
These are not deal-breakers, but addressing them would significantly elevate the guest experience.
Final thoughts: We left with a very positive impression and look forward to returning for another romantic getaway. With just a few adjustments, Hilton Garden Inn Montevideo has the potential to be not only a great hotel but an exceptional one.
Thank you to the team for making our anniversary stay memorable—we’ll...

Read moreWell kept and clean rooms but nothing out of the ordinary. My room in particular had a great view but for some reason they have a drainage system in the bathrooms (colleague in another room had same setup) and a bad and unpleasant smell emitted from this on a number of days. This was off-putting because you cannot open the windows, at least I couldn't in my room. So there was literally no ventilation at all. ||||The breakfast was alright but the area was small and there was only one chef dealing with the guest requests. On some days he\she was completely overwhelmed. ||||The bar area was usually unavailable due to 'private events', which was odd as on each occasion I counted no more than 8 people at a time. When the bar was free there was no beer on tap, you had to call a waiter over from the restaurant area and the drink selection was not great.||||Food at the restaurant was good, and the waiters were very generous with the wine servings even though it did take a few attempts to get them to actually come over lol It is a little pricey though but not expensive for Montevideo standards. ||||I found the staff extremely helpful throughout my 10 day stay, except for one lady at the front desk. I would rate their staff as 4 star, they were pretty good in general. ||||WIFI signal is good in the rooms, quite impressed with the stability of the connection. ||||Gym and internal pool are both small but adequate. ||||Location was great, very centrally located and close to the main Business area. ||||Giving it 3 stars because at close to 190 US Dollars a night we expected better, not sure if we...
