When you come to a country like Uzbekistan, this is the type of accommodation for an authentically local hospitality experience in a historically significant building. Originally a girl’s madrasa, the feel of the place is reminiscent of the better Portuguese pousadas, but quintessentially Central Asian in character. ||We picked this hotel because my cousin had stayed here a few years ago and recommended it highly.||Our room was basic, clean and quite spacious, with the changing area and bathroom set apart in a separate section. Stepping out into that rustic courtyard is a pleasure for the soul and amazing place to wake up to!|The breakfast spread was good.||The manager Babur was friendly and helpful and always smiling. When my wife became ill from something she had eaten, he personally organised a bowl of freshly cooked rice for her and recommended we focus on a green tea regime until she was better.||This is a must-try choice if you are looking for an authentic, no-frills hotel which is memorable in all the best ways and only a stone’s throw from the West Gate of...

The bathroom itself doubles as the shower, and my particular room did not drain quickly, so make sure you shower last and take care of everything else first. The mattress was HARD as a rock--though that was the case throughout Uzbekistan. The wifi does not reach the rooms, so don't count on it. The "breakfast" was the worst I experienced in Uzbekistan, and I ended up avoiding it altogether on the second day I was there. The hotel is extremely convenient, being mere steps from the west gate. I wouldn't...
