Jahongir Guest House (a minute's walk down the street from the main hotel) was well located to the old city in Samarkand (Registon was under a 10 minute walk).||SERVICE: I didn't encounter bad service anywhere in Uzbekistan. Everyone at the front desk spoke good English and was helpful and proactive, orienting me to the city, and chatting with me about Uzbekistan and the US.||ROOM: The house itself is large, built round an external atrium. My room on the ground floor had more character and local detailing than in the main hotel, something I liked. Most beds in Uzbekistan are quite firm, which I also happen to like. Complimentary water was provided. That said, decor and design in both places was reasonably simple, you aren't staying here for that.||BREAKFAST: Served in the dining area as a buffet, and was a little more Russian and less interesting than at other places I stayed. ||WIFI: No issues||PAYMENT: They say they take credit cards here, but my American one was denied. I needed to get cash at an ATM - but this is now not a complicated matter - there was one at Registon. Still, assume you will have to pay in cash.||LOCATION AND SIGHTS: All attractions are close by, including Registon Square, which is a must at sunset and nightfall. Best tip, I thought you would have to leave the square promptly at closing - 6 pm. People lingered inside longer, it seemed. The blue hour and illumination here was amazing, and less gaudy when I went then I have seen...
Read moreSimple Hotel in a good location. The garden of the hotel is very nice and quiet, good to relax after a day of sight seeing. The owner of the Hotel is very friendly as well.
The room is very basic. The cleanliness is OK, however not 100% clean in the details. There was mold in the bathroom sink and the top of the wardrobe hasn't been cleaned for ages (very dusty)
Also the gentleman who is running the reception, could improve his customer service skills. I would expect that saying "Thank you" and "Please" is a common practice. Also some more reliability would have been nice. After arriving early, I was informed the check in time is at 2pm, which is absolutely fine. I reached the hotel again after sight seeing at 2pm, just to wait for almost 45 minutes for someone to arrive at the reception and hand over my room key.
With that experience in mind, I luckily paid my room already one day prior check out, as I had to leave early at 8am. I had agreed with the receptionist to hand over the room key at 07:30am, just to again find noone available. After waiting for 10 minutes, I found the receptionist sleeping inside the reception, way after the agreed time. Very strange experience as a hotel guest.
If they improve their service to be more professional and pay some more attention to details, they can be a very good hotel in the heart...
Read moreI had the most enchanting stay at this lovely hotel! From the moment I stepped into the beautifully landscaped garden, I was captivated by its charm. The garden was an oasis of serenity, with vibrant flowers and cozy nooks to relax in, making it a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring the city.
The room decor was simply delightful. The attention to detail was evident in every corner, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The furnishings were elegant, and the tasteful artwork added a touch of sophistication. I felt like I was staying in a boutique paradise.
However, what truly made my stay memorable was the excellent service provided by the staff. They were incredibly attentive and always ready to assist with a smile. From the front desk to the restaurant, their hospitality was unparalleled.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a charming retreat with a beautiful garden, exquisite room decor, and exceptional service, this hotel is the perfect choice. I can't wait to return and experience its...
