Booked via expedia and it was a total disaster! We booked while still in Tashkent before travelling to Bukhara for one night. We arrived from Bukhara, tired and wanting to shower and rest. It wasn't easy to find, people in the street pointed us to the right place. It's someone's house, and they were very busy preparing for a wedding. Similarly to the other negative reviews, we arrived and were promptly told that the room was no longer available. A woman appeared and took us to a place opposite that was nothing like any of the photos listed, smelled strongly of barbecue smoke and didn't have a functioning shower. She hastily asked for money upfront several times, I retrieved the booking and notified her that we had already paid the money. The person responsible for the expedia booking was called Sherzod. Suspiciously similar to the same 'shekasherzod' writing 5 star reviews of the place on various platforms. She claimed that she was independent of Sherzod who was just her neighbour and was insisting that we pay her, telling us to resolve the issue of having already paid $60 to someone we hadn't even met ourselves! I called Sherzod who told me straight away to cancel without even apologising. During this time I was receiving e-mails from a platform called Vrbo that I have never even heard of in my life, telling me that Sherzod had 'replied to my message'. I couldn't read the messages without signing in, and having never used this platform before, I didn't have any log-in details. Bear in mind Sherzod had 2 full days to notify us that there was no room available, giving us ample time to look for an alternative, instead of putting us through this uncomfortable and awkward situation upon arrival. Why should we be the ones to sort out a mess that wasn't our fault? After my mom raised her voice at them and told them to fix it, Sherzod cancelled the booking and assured us that we would receive a full refund. I received an e-mail confirming this. But it shouldn't have even got to that point. When it had all finished, they still pointed us in the direction of the crappy place opposite as if we would still want to stay there! We found a nice modern hotel just around the corner and said we didn't want anything to do with them. This place isn't as advertised, they don't seem to have a clue what they are doing. A shame as we were really enjoying our travels in Uzbekistan up to this point, and a horrible introduction to Samarkand. AVOID...
Read moreWorst guesthouse ever I told them I was checking after 22pm, when I arrived nobody was there. I told the owner that I had sent a message about this. His answer "I did not see"... My room was supposed to be ready, but then someone was inside. I had to wait again. It was very smelly and the owner gave me new bed linen and asked me to change it myself (which I refused of course) The bathroom was disgusting But maybe the worst part is that they completely ignored me and did not behave like they had a guest. Members of the family were screaming out loud and fighting until almost 2am. I asked the owner two times to lower the volume because I could not just sleep. This family has problems, not sure they should run a guesthouse. I booked 3 nights but only stayed 1. In the morning I went to ask the owner was happened last night and he acted like it was nothing. He refused to give me back my passport until I pay (I booked through Booking..), I had to take it from his hands. I highly not recommend going there, there is plenty of better options in...
Read moreWe reserved a room using booking. We arrive at the afternoon, with 2 small tired kids. We were told the room we reserved was just given to another person. The owner then called someone else, who showed us a place which was nothing like we wanted, and for a higher price. This person led us to another person, and another place... They showed us about 4 more places, none of them was to our liking or to our budget. This whole journey took more then an hour, both the kids and us were realy tired by then. It only ended when we told the last person that we will handle by ourselves. After a few more places we found a place.
