During our three weeks in Vietnam we stayed in seven hotels. All were excellent, except for the My Khe I Beach Hotel in Da Nang. The sad thing was that it could have been great with very little effort.||||We arrived there just before check-in time so had to wait to get in. There was confusion over which rooms were for which family and several groups had to change rooms a few minutes later. There was no elevator so they needed to haul their luggage up and down stairs and between buildings to get into the correct rooms.||||We were quoted a rate of $30/night, including breakfast. Each day we had to go to the front desk before going to breakfast to get a coupon. Breakfast was usually juice, fruit, greasy eggs, and maybe a crepe. It generally took a long time to get our order taken and even longer to get served. A couple of days we left before getting served as it took so long. I think only one morning we got exactly what we'd ordered.||||When we checked out suddenly our rate jumped to $50 because we'd gotten the "American plan" which included the deluxe breakfasts! After three hours of arguing the group got checked out. During our week there no one could speak English well enough to exchange our towels or take our breakfast orders. However, when checking out, they all spoke English very well.||||Our room was quite large with a high ceiling. The view from the side patio and the streetside windows was stunning. Da Nang has long, wide white sand beaches and the three My Khe Beach Hotels have wonderful views out to Cham Island. However, that's about all I can say about them that's positive.||||The first day we had a very strong storm and water poured into the room through the main window. We used the tiny bath towels to mop up the water. When we called the front desk to get more towels, they couldn't speak English so we walked to the front desk to get them replaced. When the dry ones arrived, the maid was very nasty to us, demanding that we give her the wet ones, which of course we wanted to do anyway.||||The bathroom was very large but water leaked from the toilet and the floor was always slippery. The shower curtain was was way too small to be of much use and so the floor was wet after each shower. The hand held shower head didn't have a wall hanger so we had to hold on to it while showering, which was not that convenient. It was also a long step down from the tub/shower to the floor which for some guests might be awkward and/or dangerous.||||Every morning we were there we were awakened at 6am or so by furniture being moved around on the tile floor in the room(s) above us and the staff talking very loudy. The noise went one for 30 minutes or so making it impossible to get back to sleep. We never figured out what was going on.||||One last thing. I took in a good pair of travel pants to be laundered. They had been worn once and not dirty but I wasn't sure when I'd get another chance for laundry. They came back covered with large splotches of oil. I demanded that they redo them and they came back just as dirty. I almost threw them away they were such a mess. I was able to get them clean with repeated washings once back home but I'd urge travelers NOT to let this hotel do their laundry.||||This hotel is in a pretty location with beautiful views of the beach and Cham Island. There are several nice restaurants nearby. However, I'd never consider staying here again, given their attitude to foreigners. Again, this was the ONLY hotel we stayed at in Vietnam that wasn't...

Read moreWe stayed here on the recommendation of someone else who must have stayed here in the high season or something. When we arrived the place was pretty well deserted, I don't think we saw any other guests there at all. ||The receptionist had no English skills at all and had to telephone someone else and hand me the phone to explain we were here to take up a pre-booked room. Asking the receptionist for information became like "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" because she was constantly phoning a friend. Since they knew we were coming and when it would have been a good idea to have had someone we could communicate with on the desk. In the end we gave up.||The room was large and fairly clean but any food left out quickly became riddled with ants. We had a balcony overlooking the sea which was nice but I suspect it won't be there for too many more years as it clearly had concrete cancer and was cracking off the face of the building. The bathroom was also clean but the bathtub (which contained the shower) had very high sides and was challenging to get into and out of safely. We asked the receptionist for some juice but got water, which was an extra. We also asked about breakfast but were told there wasn't any.||I guess because it was the low season, finding places to eat was a challenge. There seemed to be an in-house restaurant and a sort of bar affair, but both were mothballed. The couple of open restuarants we found in the street had very restricted menus (seafood, other seafood, and different seafood) and only served beer to drink, no water or soft drinks. The hotel itself is a long way from the middle of town where other places are, and again because of the low season, finding taxis to take us anywhere was difficult as they just weren't going past.||The bright spot was watching the soccer players out on the beach after the tide went out, they were having a good time and it was fun to watch them.||I wouldn't stay here again unless there were no...
