This hotel was supposed to be a family treat, but it turned out to be extremely disappointing, and we were glad we hadn't assigned more time to this property. There are so many better hotels available in Da Nang with the much more authentic, wonderful Vietnamese kindness and hospitality.
With the exception of the kind breakfast staff and the cleaners, this was sadly the most unfriendly hotel in Vietnam (or Asia) that we visited across many months of travel. Popular with many Chinese visitors, yet a hotel lacking in any personality or warmth. The front desk staff on our arrival were obnoxious, check-in took an age, and the hotel atmosphere felt incredibly unfriendly. There are a number of other reviews that also reflect this, so it is unlikely to have been a one-off. Worse than that, they have yet to return the 2nd unauthorised deposit that they "mistakenly" took.
If you are a light sleeper, be aware that the hotel is extremely noisy from music outside (despite being on the 10th floor), with large-scale building works currently close by. Internal insulation also leaves much to be desired; you can hear everything from the coridoors at all hours.
The pillows are the type that disappear to nothing, so expect neck strain. Should you be assigned a city view room, there is a balcony, you just cannot access it from the room. You can, however, expect random people to appear outside your window to smoke or gawp in!
We all woke with coughs in the morning, and, for us, this is usually an indication of subtly encroaching smoke or hidden mould. We found the internet to be slow and an incredibly poor connection, insufficient to support our video calls.
The hotel is sadly showing signs of age, with dirty and worn carpets throughout the hallways. The lifts are very slow and, more concerningly, wobble badly, with at least one of them out of service during our visit. Various facilities are either dirty or 'under repair'. There is no kids club currently, the spa was empty, probably because it felt extremely expensive compared to our other 5* stays and the pools appear to only be for show; they are very open to the sea wind and extremely cold.
The breakfast has a wide range of selections and good quality food if you can get past the openly coughing and sneezing chefs and some serving staff. The air conditioning is kept off, so you are at the mercy of the germs of the many other guests, too. The majority of the waiting staff are pleasant and very efficient.
The final nail in the coffin - be careful to check for unscrupulous charges on your bill. The evening check-in staff charged our card twice for the obligatory deposit, and it took a shift change of staff for someone honest to highlight this to us. They also take it upon themselves to charge whatever they like for kids or whomever they consider to be 'additional guests', regardless of what you have booked, and will alter 'policies' at whim. This is also the only hotel that we visited out of many in Asia that charged a deposit. This has yet to be refunded, despite them "trying" to do so.
It's not often we find a hotel so disappointing, but this one definitely...
Read moreI recently visited the Grand Tourane Hotel and had a very disappointing experience. While the hotel's location is excellent, directly across from My Khe beach, and the views are indeed stunning, my stay was negatively impacted by several issues. Service and Staff Behavior: I found the service to be poor and the staff's behavior to be unprofessional. This was particularly frustrating given that a good hotel experience relies so heavily on helpful and courteous staff. My interactions with the staff were not what I would expect from a 5-star establishment. Unclean Environment: Despite some claims of high cleanliness standards, I found the environment to be unclean. This was particularly noticeable in the bathroom, where I encountered issues that suggest a lack of proper maintenance and attention to detail. This is a significant concern, as cleanliness is a fundamental requirement for any hotel, let alone a luxury one. Bad Food: The food was a major letdown. The breakfast buffet, which is often praised in other reviews, was below average. The quality and variety of the dishes were not up to par, and the overall experience was disappointing. For a hotel of this caliber, I expected a much higher quality of food. Overall Impression: In my opinion, the Grand Tourane Hotel does not live up to its 5-star rating. While the location is a definite plus, my experience with the poor service, bad staff behavior, and unclean environment overshadowed the positives. My stay was far from the relaxing and enjoyable vacation I had hoped for. I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel based on my...
Read moreWanted to stay on lovely beach & away from top end hotels/crowds. Whilst location is ok, the hotel isn't! No English spoken, & whilst I'm all for women breast feeding their babies, on a camp bed, whilst they were both sleeping, at midday, didn't give a great welcome!!! Shown to room, which was basic but clean. Although we did pass huge pile of very dirty duvets & pillows on the way to our room which put us off & therefore we didn't use! No complimentary water/ hair dryer/sea view/tennis, as advertised & the windows & bathroom door did not close/lock. 'Restaurant'....I use the word very loosely! Had breakfast there, but if anywhere else nearby had of been open, we would of gone there, as cutlery/crockery was dirty! Ate baguette & egg so could eat with our hands. The pool only had 1 chair, & I didn't go in as I don't think it had been cleaned recently. The staff had a party until midnight, RIGHT outside our window! Asked for room that wasn't on ground floor, but not available....although we were only guests staying! This place could be something, but needs much tlc & attention. Room was cleaned, although we asked them not to, & on day of check out, was cleaned when we were still in the room...at 9 am, even though we didn't vacate til 12, as per agreement! No...
