Absolutely stay somewhere else. This hotel was nothing like what was advertised and nothing like the standard of other places we have stayed in Vietnam for the same price or less! The bathroom was covered in rust with fixtures not sealed properly The way the shower was set up meant you drenched the whole bathroom including all over the toilet every time (you were also essentially standing over the toilet as you showered) The fridge was covered in rust The whole hotel smelt like cigarettes, there were dirty ash trays throughout and there was a cigarette butt in the lobby when we entered The bed was ridiculously hard, it was actually painful to sleep at times The door was glass so sound and light flooded our room until late at night The hotel (at least our level) was very very loud (and we are in our 20s and generally can accommodate this) The common balcony which did have a lovely view had broken furniture and what looked like old sausage which had been left in the ashtray You have to insert the key to the room for the power to turn on so you can’t leave anything in the fridge during the day that needs to keep cold

Positives: the staff were really helpful in arranging our trip from Hanoi to Cat Ba. We arrived early (8am) and our room was occupied. They kindly gave us access to another room to refresh and store our gear. Staff advised that there is a lot of construction in the area. The construction blocks the ocean views. That is NOT the fault of the hosts. Negatives: the room we were shown to was very ordinary. It was old and unpleasant. It did not match the pictures shown on the internet. I asked for the opportunity to inspect a room like the one we had booked and they were happy to oblige when one was cleaned. I walked upstairs and one of the ocean view rooms like we had booked was open and it looked the same as the one downstairs. Not as represented online. The motel is listed as non-smoking and yet there were ashtrays in the rooms and ashtrays outside the elevator on each floor. The building smelt of cigarette smoke, stale fish and dirty water. I don’t know but it was unpleasant. Once again, the staff were pleasant but we cancelled our booking and moved on. I’d suggest that you inspect a room here...

DO NOT PAY BEFORE INSPECTING THE ROOMS!!! Okay enough location as it is close to lots of activities. BUT the rest of the experience was horrible. The bed had period blood on it amongst other suspicious stains. The sink faucet was rusted along with water heater pipe. Everywhere smelt of cigarettes!! Fridge was falling apart and full of grimy molded food specks and dust. We were promised a room with ocean views but were given street with old run down buildings and a construction site. No beach in sight. Staff in charge at reception were neither accommodating nor helpful when these issues were brought to them. Spoke to the staff in a calm manner hopping for a resolution and they started yelling at me. They told me I had 30 minutes to find rooms at a new hotel and move out or else I’d have to stay with them (it’s a weekend and we needed accommodations for 11 people).
