Don’t believe at the 5 stars.. far away from expectations..
When we arrived at the reception there were few members of the staff sleeping and almost nobody cared about us till we woke up a guy who checked us in.
We arrived at the room, after a first look it seemed ok except for spiderweb, the old furniture, the dark bathroom (1 small light only), 1 bedside table only and of course it was even too big with 2 double beds.
But after that we discovered the sheet of both double beds were dirty with spots and hair, the wc was dirty as well and of course even the towels.
We immediately went to the reception were the English barrier occurred, till we took the guy up to the room to show him.
They didn’t seem preoccupied and furthermore some people from cleaning seemed almost annoyed that we point those problems out.
And it was our last stop in Vietnam after almost 1 month around the whole country so we have seen some hotels but this was the worst even if it is a 9.2 on booking (don’t know how is it possible)
Then the guy checked the availability and make us going in a room on the back of the hotel, with only a very small window and with a bad smell.. he looked at us and decided to change room again. So he bring us up on the last floor, which might sound cool but it isn’t because there were nobody except the laundry room with washer and dryer often on even late in the night and a bit noisy. At least this room was bit more clean and towels were ok this time. Also the mattress was not comfortable at all.
Breakfast is really poor, you decide a la carte but very few choices, especially for those who like sweet breakfast. The chocolate crepe was horrible and the marmalade is only one type and it tastes like chemical. Furthermore breakfast is held in the restaurant room so even in the morning there is a strong smell of fish even if they have a terrace bar at level five which has a good view but it is decaying.
In general the place is too huge and unkept.. I don’t know why in Vietnam they often try doing things in big but they forget to care about important details like keep the place nice, tidy and clean or be attentive to real...
Read moreI realise giving a one star review for this place is quite harsh, but it’s only an effort to bring down the average score. At the time of writing, this hotel has a mystifying 4.9 out of 5 rating on google. Booking dot com also has an 8.7 rating, which is baffling. I have no explanation for this except for maybe the good ratings are all coming from local Vietnamese people. For me and my partner (Aussie and French) this hotel was the worst place we stayed in.
We are not aristocrats. In fact we have just finished touring through the northern provinces, staying in very simple homestays all the way, and all of them had far superior hospitality, cleanliness, and food than the Lang Chai.
We booked because of the good reviews, only to be met with an incredibly dismissive reception. More times than one we witnessed outright bickering and fighting amongst the confusing array of staff, who barely acknowledged us at all.
The location is fine, but the bottom level (lobby) is a stinky fish restaurant. Usually the floor was wet, with cigarette butts all over.
The room was ok, pretty clean. The bed was as hard as rock (no idea what it was made of) and the AC blew cold air directly onto the bed. The shower was rusted and barely stayed attached to the wall, and sprayed water all over the bathroom.
Finally, the breakfast (included) was rubbish, brought into the hotel from out on the street somewhere, and dumped in front of us. The ginger tea tasted metallic, and the coffee was basically dirty water. We got up and left, buying own breakfast elsewhere.
An unfortunate end to an otherwise fantastic...
Read moreI'm barely to write review for any place when I go to travel. But this time I have to write it down. I went to this hotel 1 month ago with expectation with nice room with sea view. But everything is terrible, nightmare. I feel so embarrassed when introduced this is hotel in Vietnam with my foreigner friend. The room is so smelly, stinky, I thought it just because they don't often open the window. They use the teeth brush which give to customer to clean up. When I opened fridge, it had lot of cockroach run out, at night have a lot 🐜 running around. After that, I took a shower and the pipe was stuck, on the top is leaking water. I complain with owner, I just received the answer that, I show another room for you but every room is like that, if you want to change is ok, if you don't agree you just check out pay and leave. The price is not cheap, and they just give $4 for discount if I continue to stay. But problem it's already at 9p.m. I'm really tired when have to move out, bring all of stuff and looking another hotel. It's first time I booked it from the app, never trust all of the reviews 5 stars on Google and travel website. They bought reviews to cover all of bad reviews. I so...
