All my reviews are fair and unbiased and are reflective of my experience alone:||The Hoang Lan Hotel is situated in a safe and social area of district 3 of Ho Chi Minh. ||The location is a good point for near by attractions and a grab driver (bike) ride away from many others at a very affordable cost. ||The near by attractions include:|The museum Palace of independence (walking)|The War Museum (America+Vietnam) (walking)|Shopping mall (small) (walking)|Shrines religious and historical (walking)|Shopping mall (large 6 floors) (grab)|Capybara cafe (grab)|Oasis cafe (grab)| The observation tower (grab)|Walking street (grab)|And many more||The hotel is located across the road from a 24 hour convenience store |A spa is less than 100m away |Restaurants of different cuisines within walking |Parks within walking distance ||On Arrival I noticed the hotel is behind a block of flats or offices with a coffee shop at the front. The area seemed very safe and when I was walking later at night I never saw any trouble.||The reception/cafe was run by a wonderful elder couple. They spoke very little English but with google translator I was able to communicate anything to them and they wouldn't ever give up on me if I was requiring help with something. They were so attentive and happy. The man seemed very excited to show me how the air conditioner worked in the room, the TV and that they had netflix on the TV. ||There is a well working singular lift that looked brand new. This goes from ground floor and covers all the floors with rooms.||The room was immaculate In terms of cleanliness and the facilities all worked well. The air con has a powerful mode and cools the room nicely. The TV has English language channels that have Vietnamese subtitles and plays movies. As prior mentioned there's a netflix app but you will be required to sign I to your account.||The soaps in the bathroom all smell beautifully, towels and all general expected expectations of what's provided were met. ||The bed was comfortable and a balcony was available.|There's no where you can really safely hang clothes if you get wet in the rain on there and during typhoon season it's not really a good idea to do so anyway you'll lose clothes due to wind or the rain will get them. |A chair would be a nice edition on the balconies.||The area is peaceful and quiet during the day and night making it perfect for sleep.||There's a laundry service available at the hotel if you bring your laundry in a bag, the value for money on the price is exceptionally good and the clothes are returned to you looking perfect.||The cafe part connected to the hotel where breakfast is served was nice and clean and the breakfast was of good quality. The lady offered to make me eggs and asked how I liked them I said scrambled and they were some of the best scrambled eggs on toast I've ever had.||Theres a selection of fresh juice drinks available.||The Hotel for the price is more than worth it. The care the people working there have adds extreme value and I wish them much happiness and success in their future. ||10/10 stay|Couldn't be happier and I would...
Read moreIf I have the luxury of time, I usually visit a hotel several days before we stay in that hotel to avoid false advertising and to cancel the reservation without a penalty. |Unfortunately, my wife and I did not have that kind of luxury and we had to stay in Hoang Lan Hotel for 4 nights and found that the reality was vastly different from what was described about Huong Lan on several websites. |1. Location: |Bizarrely, although this hotel is situated near the heart of District 3 center, it is in the worst position possible, as it is situated at the back of an alley which consists of several higher and bigger apartments and hotels. Upon returning from our Dalat trip, our driver struggled to locate this hotel and we had to check it up ourselves with the local people and carried our own luggage on rough and loose concrete lanes (Attachment 1). |2. Room standard: |By the look of bathroom accessories and interior decor, I presume the hotel might have been refurbished some years ago. Despite that, the levels of finish of this hotel/room were compromised significantly (Attachment 2). When we first opened the door of room 153 (on level 5), the squeaky noise was loud and unbearable. Then, when we moved around the room, we heard consistent clicking noises from the vinyl planks on the floor. |3. City view: |This is simply a misleading statement as it might take great courage for someone to be on the balcony which is surrounded by higher apartments and hotels around (Attachment 3). |4. Buffet: |To compare with the buffets of other 2- or 3-star hotels in Ho Chi Minh City, I consider the standards of Hoang Lan's buffet to be boring and poor in both quantity and quality. During the four-day period (Jan 04-08), the middle-aged couple had served the same pho, egg, and several convenience foods such as mini croissant, mini dumpling, mini cocktail sausage, sandwich, and some fresh fruits (which I regard them the most valuable of this buffet). |I believe that with professionalism, the staleness of beverage and convenience food of this hotel could be avoided. To save electricity, the drink dispenser was only switched on when breakfast was served. As a result, the artificial juices were tasteless and off. I also noted that cocktail sausages were leathery while the mini dumplings were musty. |To conclude, unless the above-mentioned matters are resolved or improved, I do not recommend this...
Read moreI've never been so happy about my stay with a hotel with a low price like this one. Hidden behind a large apartment complex is a nice and quiet place to rest in the busy streets of Saigon. The location is not too far from District 1 (Grabcar prices were not bad) and across the street is a convenient store GS25. It is a fairly new and super clean hotel. Since it is small, the staff is incredibly friendly and treated us like family. There's a cozy coffee lounge where breakfast is served by two extremely kind and warm couple, who sometimes make homemade pho (it was the best pho I had in VN). I also got sick and asked for salt water and the wife was very accommodating. We stayed there intermittently for a few days, flew out of town for a few, and then came back. We did that twice in a span of 3 weeks and they stored our large luggage and boxes until we came back. They offer laundry service and I believe they give our laundry to an external service. The laundry service does not separate delicates and completely ruined some of our clothes. We complained to the hotel manager about this. Hopefully, they either change the service or notify guests that the service does not separate delicates. Staff is mostly professional and respectful except for the man on night shift duty. He can come off disrespectful and not knowledgeable about the hotel processes sometimes. He gave us a bad first impression since we arrived at 11pm the first day. Overall, the stay was great! It truly felt like home. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone and I will definitely be...
