Took the fam here on Sunday as I was craving for some Sichuan food. All I could say was everything was okay except the only one thing is the Chongqing sauce wasn't 100% exactly how it was supposed to taste like. Being a big fan of Sichuan cuisine, I've been looking for a good Sichuan restaurant in town and I've found this place. This place would of been a 5-star if the chef made it 100% authentic Sichuan. I was told the chef is Vietnamese and not Chinese which is why the dishes have been altered to Vietnamese taste buds. Another thing that gets this place dropped from a 5-star to a 4-star is the service. One of the servers was being very rude when we asked her to remove the grill. She came over and shoved me to the side to remove it. She could of asked me nicely to move out of her way instead of shoving me. I understand that it was hot and she didn't want to drop it on me but all she needed was just, ask! Overall, the food is alright if you ask for my opinion and being Sichuan food is very hard to find in Saigon I couldn't ask for more. Would I come back? Answer is, yes. I would come back to try different sauce as they offer 3 kinds of fish in a handful of different sauces. However, I would give the same server a lecture if she shoved...
Read moreI recently visited here, and while I prefer not to comment on the food as I don’t know how it was supposed to taste, there are areas of service that could use improvement. Upon arrival, I was initially seated at a table right next to the front door, even though there were plenty of empty tables available. When I requested a table further inside, I was told it was reserved. However no one showed for the table until I finish my meal.
Additionally, when the bill was brought to my table, it included three items I had not ordered. After pointing this out, they adjusted the bill but only removed two of the items. While the amount was not significant and I did not press further, it was clear that the items listed were not mine.
These issues could easily be addressed with more attention to detail and a greater focus on customer service. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback into consideration to enhance the overall...
Read moreLet me start by saying Hao Yu wasn't bad by any means. The place itself was nice - clean, spacious, and with some effort put into the decor. It felt relaxing for a dinner.
However, the food was a bit of a let down. I got the impression they were going for a more unique take on grilled fish, but it wasn't quite there. The fish itself was fresh, but the flavoring was just a tad off. I had it with a spicy Szechuan sauce, which sounded exciting, but it ended up being a bit one-note. It lacked the complexity I was hoping for.
Maybe I should've tried something else on the menu. They seemed to have a decent variety of non-fish options and some people online rave about their spicy frog legs. If I went back, I'd probably give something else a shot.
Overall, Hao Yu was a 3 out of 5 for me. It's a decent option if you're looking for a clean, relaxing spot for dinner, but the food itself wasn't quite what I...
