I stayed at the Free Beach Resort for just over a week, and while it had its moments, it was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Let me break it down.
The Great: The room was absolutely fantastic. Honestly, this was the highlight of my stay. It was incredibly spacious, with a nice, clean bathroom and everything you could need for a comfortable stay. The bed? So comfortable that I looked forward to collapsing into it every night—it really felt like a little slice of luxury. If you’re the kind of person who values good accommodations, the rooms here definitely deliver.
The Not-So-Great: Now, onto the things that didn’t quite hit the mark. First up, the service—especially at the restaurant—was a real letdown. The staff weren’t very friendly or welcoming, and it often felt like I was bothering them just by ordering something. For a place that looks as nice as this, I expected a higher standard of hospitality, and honestly, I felt disappointed.
Then there’s the rules. The resort has a strict “no outside food or drinks” policy, which, okay, I get—they want guests to spend money at their restaurant. But the way they enforce it? Way too much. It’s not just a rule; it’s a rule they really hammer home. Even something as small as a soda or a piece of fruit was a big no-no. And what made it worse was how they went about it—staff would confront people on the beach, and the way they communicated felt more like scolding than politely enforcing a policy. It often felt like you could get in trouble just for stepping out of line, which was a bit too invasive for my liking.
The Bottom Line: At the end of the day, despite these frustrations, I still had an enjoyable experience overall. The room was honestly so great that it made up for some of the negatives, and I did manage to relax and enjoy my time. That said, the poor service and strict rule enforcement did take away from the holiday vibe a bit. If they could improve on these things, this place could be amazing. But for now, I think I’d look for a different spot the next time...
Read moreThe resort is quite dated and in need of some basic updates, as others have mentioned. While the place itself is okay, what really stood out was the lack of cleanliness—there was trash scattered throughout the bar and beach area. I saw a baby diaper on the first day, and it was still there three days later when we checked out. The beach had a lot of plastic and other debris, which was disappointing.
On a positive note, the staff at the beachfront restaurant were very kind and welcoming, especially the young men working there. The food and views were great. However, the owners were not as accommodating. I requested a room change because mine was next to the reception, where people were frequently picking up and dropping off motorbikes, making it quite noisy. There was a vacant room next to mine, but when I asked to switch, I was told it was reserved. However, it remained dark and unoccupied the entire day.
Additionally, I had issues with hot water, and despite the mosquito nets, the room had a lot of mosquitoes—I had to spray constantly.
The worst part was the last two days when they were burning something, possibly plastic or tires. The smell was incredibly strong and toxic, making it impossible to stay outside for even a minute. I have no idea what or where they were burning, but it was unbearable.
Overall, while the location and restaurant staff were great, the lack of cleanliness, poor maintenance, and unhelpful management made the stay...
Read moreIt's a nice little resort made up of small bungalows with a few hotel rooms above reception. It's not the Ritz, but you're not paying Ritz prices. There's a hill from the main road to reception and the bungalows so if you're not up to walking down the hill home or up hill to go out, then reconsider.
This place is right on the beach. Room 8 is the beachfront bungalow with a veranda literally on the beach. Amazing sunset views. You can hear the waves lapping on the beach while you doze off to sleep.
The restaurant and bar are literally on the beach or in the sea tide dependant! A fantastic location.
Very reasonable pricing, less than million vnd per night for the most expensive room - 8 on the beach.
Rooms are basic but have air-conditioning, fridge, shower, balcony / veranda, very comfy beds - possibly the most comfortable I've ever slept in. 2 small free bottles of water per stay, which is strange as we're here for 14 nights. If we stayed 3 individual nights we'd get 6 .
Breakfast is from a menu, quite limited but several options for all including Vietnamese soups omelette and fried eggs and "bacon". All served with a bread roll.
A short walk around the corner from long beach where there's plenty of beach shacks etc. and the other way, plenty of hotels with bars on the beach.
Would I stay here again? I'd say so. In room 8 again to get the benefit of that lovely sunset.
It's not a luxury hotel, but...
