First of all, La Veranda Phu Quoc is definitely one of the best getaways we have had the privilege to stay. We traveled as a couple and stayed for 02 nights, and how we wish to have stayed longer.
The complimentary airport pickup and warm-hearted check-in were a great bonus after our delayed flight from Saigon. Our villa was beautiful, spacious and romantic. My wife loved it, and she said she felt like a little madam running away from home.
The historical Indochine buildings and grounds are perfectly maintained. Since the owner Madam Catherine has lived through the French colonial period in Vietnam, and La Veranda is a testament of her passionate memories dedicated to her own family’s origin, the whole establishment just made you feel special. We felt like we were back in the past actually. So for those of you who prefer a simple, slow lifestyle, this resort is the one!
One other thing we loved about this place is their beautiful, botanical landscape. We actually got lost a couple times because the trees and flowers were so dense you hardly see anything beyond. But that means increased privacy and quieter oasis which we can’t really complain about. Also, we really appreciate the daily committed efforts of the garden team to keep it a green paradise as it is. They were constantly working hard but were always smiling to us when we passed by.
Facing westward to the Gulf of Thailand, there is one thing certain about La Veranda is their beautiful sunsets. In fact, one of the first reasons that we chose to stay here was because of their beautiful beach directly looked out to the glorious, pink golden sunsets every day. We highly recommend their signature Sunset Champagne where they set up a little romantic corner with bed, pillows, blanket, cold champagne and snacks for you. All you need to do is enjoying the breathtaking view with your loved one.
Perhaps what we loved most about La Veranda is their attentiveness to details and guests. The managers Enzo and Anya and the whole staffs really went out of their ways to make us feel at home. They would talk to us and ask us if they can assist in any way. They would always smile and be gentle and really make us feel comfortable. We didn’t feel like going on a vacation. We felt like we actually are staying at our house, walking to our beach and enjoying our food.
Talking about food, we feel that breakfast was great but a bit limited. There were several Vietnamese dishes, hot noodle, an egg station and a few Western items. However, we understand this is a boutique resorts and the available dishes are more than satisfied. For those who prefer a grand, lot-of-option kind of breakfast, you might find it a bit selective. But each available course tasted great, and they had these glass bottles of fresh juices and water which we really liked.
We have to stress that dinners at the Peppertree restaurant were top notch however. We ordered Australian rib-eyes for the first night. One the second night, we ordered shrimp and more steak as it was so good. Their unique desserts were fantastic with one dedicated to Madam Catherine herself. Please try it if you can. The restaurant setting was romantic filled with candles and lovely music. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to treat the lady with great food and romance.
On a side note, La Veranda only use ecological straws made out of bamboo and grass. Thumbs up for the initiative commitment to sustainable environment!
All in all, we had an extremely pleasant stay at La Veranda. The staffs and management team were friendly and attentive. The establishment was filled with history and classical decoration. The ambience was slow, romantic and relaxed. Not to mention the greet dining at Peppertree.
La Veranda is our home away from home, a charming oasis worth coming back, and a paradise we will definitely visit again...

All the staff I met were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. They were willing to answer my questions, recommend the best activities and accommodate all my requests. Their professional attitude and kind smile made me feel immediately comfortable and welcome.
The restaurants in the hotel offered a great dining experience. I had the opportunity to sample a wide variety of delicious dishes that were prepared with precision and passion. Each dish was a real treat for the palate and perfectly complemented the atmosphere of luxury and elegance.
The hotel also offers the opportunity to relax and unwind in its wellness centre. Here, I was able to indulge in luxurious massages and body treatments that helped me relax and renew my strength. The staff at the wellness center was very professional and friendly, and the care they provided was amazing. Another advantage of this hotel was its location. It is right on the beach, which gave me easy access to the sea and beautiful beach activities. I was able to swim, sunbathe on a lounge chair, or just walk along the shoreline. Every moment spent on the beach was filled with peace and beauty.
I would also like to highlight the great pool located just steps away from the beach at La Veranda Resort. This pool is literally the perfect place to refresh and relax. Its beautiful blue waters beckon guests to take a refreshing swim and enjoy a sunny day. The surrounding tropical greenery and elegant loungers add to the feeling of luxury and tranquility. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who desires an experience full of luxury, comfort...
Read moreCame here on my birthday to indulge in a classier setting after three nights roughing it in the jungle at Mango Bay. As soon as I stepped into the colonial mansion, was greeted and given a welcome drink and snack at the beautiful lobby ‘Le Bar’ before moving to the Premier Building, an upgrade I was told, from the Deluxe building.
My room 704 was small yet cozy, and the balcony didn’t have much of a view as it was situated next to the gardens and the spa. Was okay with the room until I decided to turn on the shower and realized the shower drain took forever to clear, so had to call the engineer to fix the drain - it took three guys and 30 minutes but they finally fixed it.
What irritated me was that besides the drain, the TV reception was terrible as several channels were flickering and not clear, and the initial welcome didn’t feel personal at all, especially when no one bothered to check the date on my passport and correlate that with the check-in date. I know, I know, they are not mind readers but attention to details would make it more special for the guests. Previously, other 5-star resorts like St Regis and even boutique hotels were attentive enough to look at the passport and realize I was celebrating a special occasion without me having to verbalize it, but it seems the staff at La Veranda really need to be more diligent and pay more attention to the details, and that also includes the maintenance of the rooms. How the poor drainage and the flickering TV escaped their notice means that they were just giving out rooms without proper QC.
It was also maddening to find that though I was on the third floor, the soundproofing was pretty poor as I could hear one of the guests continuously banging the closets and doors at odd hours of the night and morning.
All these numerous issues was quite upsetting and I was tempted to cut my stay short and move to JW Marriott, but decided to write them an email detailing the issues and the next day, was given an option to change my room.
Shamir, the guest relations manager, was apologetic and noted that they missed a few key things on my first day and wanted to make it up with a thoughtful gesture of a cake, flowers and a room change (with a working TV)! Really appreciated the fact that the team took responsibility and feedback to improve.
The beachside villa is a good alternative for light sleepers as it’s a single-storey villa but it’s also prone to tons of mosquitos and one night, I heard what sounded like an animal jumping on top of the roof. It took me a few hours to sleep after that mysterious visitor.
During my stay at La Veranda, I had my lunch and dinner at Le Jardin and The Pepper Tree and evening drinks at Le Bar; I preferred the food and simpler menu at Le Jardin than Pepper Tree, and throughly enjoyed the Phu Quoc caramelized squid dish, the Bo vermicelli salad and the fettucine bolognese. The tiramisu was très delicious as well. Price wise, the cost of the dishes in the resort is not too bad - yes, it would probably be considered expensive if you were to compare the prices to local dishes, but the ingredients and taste were top notch and well worth it.
Although my stay began with a rocky start, am glad that everything worked out in the end, and I will be returning to La Veranda in the...
