Phong Nha Backpacker Hostel — Hotel in Quảng Bình Province

Talk about a bad experience. Partner was greeted by someone with such a bad attitude, shoving a phone in her face with her being on the phone with someone in order to translate ‘can I have a menu’ strange right? Well then it turns out that for 35k you get half a cup of smoothie, really frustrating. Then when asking for ice, she was told they didn’t have any, even though they have iced coffee on the menu. Only when we pointed out the freezer did she bother to go and get ice. Then scooped the ice out of the freezer by hand, and dunking it in. Just to clarify, this wasn’t a language barrier issue, after she had finished her phone call we then used google translate the whole time, clearly it was some kind of other issue… but then to top it all off, the worst problem of them all, the smoothie was filled, and I mean filled with bits of plastic. The daughter of the family is friendly and speaks good English. However, not only did they lock us out of the hostel when we returned at midnight, meaning we had to phone them repeatedly until they let us in, but when we asked them to do laundry for us they took the only nice item of clothes I asked them to wash. When I realised a few days later and phoned them they at first hung up on me, then they told me they never washed clothes there and that when they asked if we wanted laundry we went elsewhere to do it (even though we washed clothes there twice and definitely didn't go anywhere else for it) and then after that excuse failed they told me that because it was a few days since I must have left it at another hotel (but I definitely didn't). I said that that was not the case as I hadn't seen it since and the last time I saw it was when it was in their laundry room, but they insisted they did not have it. I am absolutely gutted! Do...

I was expecting the other reviews to be at least partially inaccurate, but I was wrong. The place is just dirty, from the entrance hall with sofas covered in what could be dust or old dirt, to the bathrooms in the back I wouldn't dare wash in. Sleeping in their beds felt like a risky endeavour. We had this place included in our bus trip from Tam Coc where we arrived at 4-4:30 in the morning.
