I came here with high expectations, as their Google Reviews were so positive.
I tried this restaurant tonight but it's quality was just average and nothing special compared with those Hainanese Chicken Rice available in the Adelaide City.
The favoured jasmine rice was a bit too wet (i.e. the rices were boiled with excessive water) and not tasteful enough, the bondless chicken meat was a bit too bland which is nothing close to the Hainanese Chicken commonly available in Thailand, Malaysia or Hong Kong etc.
The sauces looked like home made but they were not too close to those sauces provided in the Asian countries. The chilli sauce was not too good but the spring onion sauce was quite nice. The home made garlic soy sauce looks like a standard provision in all Adelaide's restaurants offering Hainanese Chicken Rice but in fact it should be made by mixing soy sauce, dark soy sauce, suger and adding a little bit corn starch powder as thickener.
The combination laksa noodle was just so so. It was charged at $20 which was on high side compared with others so I would expect a bit better quality.
Overall satisfaction was just so so and there are plenty of restaurants offering Hainanese Chicken Rice in the Adelaide CBD. I have a doubt if I will...
Read moreOn 25/02, I came here for lunch. I was craving Hainanese-style chicken, and the maps led me here. I ordered steamed chicken with rice, with the option to choose boneless or not. I also ordered steamed pork dumplings and a Thai milk tea. I was pleasantly surprised to have my food delivered within two minutes, except for the dumplings, which I assumed were freshly made and took an additional five minutes. That's still remarkably fast. There's a variety on the menu; they even offer laksa, but it was too hot today, so perhaps next time. The staff-to-customer ratio is good, but my experience was soured when the server abruptly snatched the menu from my table without asking if I was finished with it. Additionally, they don't use gloves when handling or refilling food at the open counter, visible to all customers. However, aside from these issues, the food is commendable and will definitely satisfy your cravings. The restaurant is conveniently located next to my favorite O'Connell Bakery. Just a heads up, check their opening schedule as they only serve lunch and dinner, with downtime in between, likely from 3pm until the start of dinner. Let us know in...
Read moreGood to know: The food is good and service is excellent. It's a small shop, but growing in popularity. Quite casual, you can eat alone. Good vareity of dishes to order here, from traditional chicken rice varieties, to stir fry options. There are decent dietary options for those that need them. (Gluten, vegetarian) Value for money is decent, lunches around $14-15. Time to serve is good. Food temperature is great, you can tell it's fresh from the wok straight to your plate in front of you. Serving size is reasonable. Enough to leave you on the edge of full. Singapore noodles and Mee goreng we're great. Char kway teow is not charred like the street hawker style version (Warong makes the best CKT)
So far I'm enjoying this new dining option. But I think this place is still establishing itself and finding it's rhythm in North Adelaide, and I will keep visiting and trying new meals, observing how they continue...
