I remember the day......I remember like it was yesterday...

It was a muggy Thursday morning in Cairns.

My day began like all the rest....

I wondered how I got here? Middle aged. Going through the motions of life.

I used to want more. I used to be spontaneous. I used to go out, meet people.

Now...I seemingly live my life in fear

"......a life lived in fear, is a life half lived..." echoed in the back of my mind as I envision watching Strictly Ballroom from our dated loungeroom as a child.

Thats when I saw it.

Edge Hill Butcher.

I walked in...and was overcome with an unfamiliar feeling....calm

The worker behind the counter welcomed me. She was a far cry from butchers I'd met in years past. Big and burly. With handlebar moustaches. I imagine they spent their weeknights at locals pubs and had names like Dave, Wazza and Nicko. Trading sausages for cartons of beer....

No...this woman was kinder. Gentler. She was patient and answered my fumbling questions about costs and ingredients....

And slowly.....with each answer she gave, I felt it....the fear....The fear was gone.

I don't remember her name.

I don't remember what I bought.

But I'll never forget that day.

We chanced upon the this butcher shop while walking around town and decided to pop in. Inside we found a treasure trove for meat lovers. Each cut of meat was tantalizing and scrumptious. Whichever way you want to dream to eat your meat they have it prepared for you. They have the finest cuts of every protein imaginable and if you wish to splurge they have a dry age meat refrigerator with supreme cuts. The shop offers chutneys and sauces galore to pair with the meats and a nice selection of spirits. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. When people are really passionate about their business it shows in every little detail from whimsical decore to a clever butcher cleaver handle on the front door. Apparently this butcher shop is recognized in the industry, you will see plenty awards lining their walls as a testament to their excellence. For the record I am a vegetarian but I was with two hard core carnivores who kept salivating like Labradors and plotting their next purchase. We...

It was my son’s birthday and he lives in Cairns so I wanted to surprise him with a gift from Edge Hill Butchery (who he visits a couple of times a week).I called (from Melbourne) and spoke to Julie who was extremely helpful arranging a gift from the Butchery. I sorted out payment then asked for a really big favour………., can you please deliver it to his home? Julie said no problem, we’ll drop it off to Woree after work!! Now that’s what I call “world first class service”! The owners Rod and Julie are so genuine and kind as well as displaying and serving up the best quality meat in Australia!
