Never knew about this place til recently. A Valley pub that has seen better days, transported us back in time to the smokey, grungy days of my musical youth. Featuring a lot of local talent and overseas acts as well, in what they term a safe and secure environment. We went to this venue with low expectations, but boy we were wrong!
The venue is small, but not claustrophobic. There is a decent bar and lots of nooks and crannies to sit in (including the front verandah with its wrought iron facade). All types of people turned up to see KEiiNO, the amazing Norwegian band, headlined by Alexsandra Rotan, Tom Hugo and Fred Buljo, who were embarking on their first tour of Australia.
We managed to pass the time people watching: hipsters, LGBTI folk and assorted srudents in groups, as well as a sprinkling of oldies and a couple of another planet....everyone is welcome.
The female singer, Alex walked through the group of about 80 fans and I swear that nobody even saw her. A few minutes later, they emerged with broad smiles on their faces. Most of the crowd were Eurovision fans (Australia gave them 12 points on Eurovision in May) and being good Brisvegas peeps, we smiled back and showed them that we knew most of their lyrics by heart.
Don't hesitate to try this venue, even if you don't know the band playing. There was general camaraderie and almost no violent or aberrant behaviour (except foe one slightly inebriated man, who couldn't dance. Kudos to The Foundry. May you...
Read moreWe went to the Foundry on Wickham St to see Bad//Dreems. Atmospheric venue, and great for getting up close to the band and experiencing their energy. The telephone/ticket booth and chalkboard advertising the night's entertainment in the foyer at the entrance downstairs looked great. We drove in and parked at the Wickham Terrace 24hr car park - a 15 minute walk to the venue, and only $5 for parking. We took the stairs up to the bar and stage area; but there must have been an accessible entrance elsewhere, because a person in an electric wheelchair was present at the gig. The women's toilets were fine. Pleasant...
Read moreBeen a while since I've been to The Foundry and I wasn't disappointed. Stage area is small and therefore intimate which is great for high energy gigs which it certainly was for Art vs Science. The floor was bouncing and it was hot and sweaty so shorts are de rigeur in the summer! If you're a smoker you'll be glad to know there is an undercover smoking area upstairs so that's a plus over most other Valley live music venues; well separated from the rest of the venue so also a plus if you're not. Bar area is relatively large and away from the stage with a pool table tucked in the corner. Drinks are...
