A Fish and Chip Shop: A Taste of Tradition with a Modern Twist

Tucked in the heart Carlton, this Tongan-owned fish and chip shop EDITAS is an absolute culinary treasure. With a commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients and a family-first approach, it delivers a food experience that is nothing short of phenomenal. What truly sets it apart, however, is the unmistakable island touch that elevates every bite.

The Fish: Freshness is the cornerstone of this shop, and it shows. The fish, sourced daily, arrives at peak quality—delicate and flaky with a subtle sweetness that can only come from fresh fish. The fish is expertly battered with a crisp, golden coating that offers the perfect crunch while keeping the flesh tender and moist. The flavor is light yet rich, with each bite transporting you straight to the ocean.

The Triple Fried Chips: These chips are next-level. Cooked not once, not twice, but three times to achieve a deep golden brown that provides an irresistible crunch. The result is a crisp exterior that gives way to a fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth interior. They are seasoned to perfection—just enough to enhance the natural potato flavor without overshadowing the star of the show. If you’re a chip lover, this alone is worth the visit.

The Editas Burger: Now, if you’re really looking for something to blow your taste buds away, look no further than the Editas burger—the undisputed champion of the menu. The bun is soft yet sturdy, holding together perfectly as you take each satisfying bite. Inside, you’re met with a golden fillet of fresh fish, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Topped with a creamy, tangy sauce that complements the fish beautifully, it’s an absolute must-try.

The Atmosphere: As with the food, the atmosphere exudes warmth and authenticity. The Tongan influence is evident not just in the flavors but in the hospitality. The staff, often family members, greet you like an old friend, making you feel right at home in their cozy corner of the world. The shop is clean, welcoming, and buzzing with the energy of loyal customers who return time and time again for that one-of-a-kind experience.

Final Thoughts: This Tongan-owned fish and chip shop isn’t just serving up food; it’s serving up a piece of culture, a slice of island life, and a whole lot of heart. From the freshest fish delivered daily to the triple-fried chips and the show-stopping fish burger, every bite tells a story of tradition, care, and a commitment to excellence. It’s not just a meal—it’s an experience. Whether you’re a regular or a first-timer, this gem will quickly become your go-to for fish and...

After hearing about the amazing Edita's Fish Burger for many weeks, we finally made it there on Good Friday around 12:30. There was a very long queue when we arrived. It was about a 25 minute wait in the line to order. Once I made it in, I ordered for 3 people. Two Fish Burgers, One Seafood Platter and a Medium Chips. It was about a 40 minute wait until our order was ready. The Fish Burgers were well worth the wait. It would be far too easy to say that this was the best Fish Burger that I have ever tasted, so I'll put this out there, this is quite possibly one of the best burgers that I have ever had! Yes, I'm favourably comparing a fish burger to traditional and trendy beef hamburgers! The fish was super fresh and flaky and perfectly cooked in its light and crunchy batter. The tartar sauce was creamy and a perfect compliment to the fish burger. The Seafood platter/pack was $50.00 and consisted of 8 fresh Oysters and 12 cooked cold prawns. Good and fresh and honest but not the reason that I drove across town for. The Triple Fried Chips were terrible, easily one of the worst hot chip experiences I've ever had! They were cool, hard, very oily and mostly bits with only a few normal chips on top for show and not remotely deserving of a presence in the postcode, let alone on the table next to their very fine Fish Burger. It was quite clear that these chips were at the bottom corner of the chip hopper and the staff simply scrapped the remaining bits for the order whilst the fresh chips were cooking. I'd say that the pressure of the long queue and endless orders caused what was probably a rare blemish. The provision of tables and chairs outside along the footpath outside several neighboring closed shops is a great and probably necessary idea.

In short, I'd definitely come back for the Fish Burger, probably leave out the Seafood Platter and try some of their other specialties and give the Triple Fried Chips a 2nd chance. I'll come on a not so busy day next time! Fish on a Friday, a Good Friday, who'd...

After reading/ watching so many reviews and tiktoks- i was infulanced and had to check out this place.

WOW, people were right about the line up. We got to the shop at 12.04pm and there was already a line up and a heap of people had already been served.

So we ordered, a smash burger, fish biger, battered fish, chips and potato cakes.

My hubby rrally liked his smash burger, really tasty, bun was so soft. 9/10

I tried the fish buger, but asked for half sauce only- wow what a tasty burger, the bun was super soft, the fish was light, crunchy and so yummy, i just wasnt a fan of the tartere sauce, too much dill and it had raw onion in it... but it was still bloody yummy- 9/10

The battered fish was a highligh- golden brown, a nice crunch to the batter and the fish piece was so tender and juicy- and the chicken salt use was really good. 9/10

The chips, were amazing, loved the crunchy bits, we got a family size, way to big for just 2 people..lol, they were alittle cold (compaired to all the other food), but really liked the chips. 8.5/10

Potato cakes- wow, it was like eating a crunchy cloud- the outside batter had a nice crunch to it, but the inside, the potato was heven, it was so soft- the softest potato cake i had ever eaten, and again topped with there special salt (which had a weird sweet/ chicken taste). I only had 1, hubby had afew, but after the 2nd was getting abit too much- as they were quite oily. 9/10- Over all 100% will come back. Great job to them all. The service was also wonderful, the lady behind the counter was friendly, helped us with our order and was...

Tried Editas and it was such a great dining experience. The place has a stylish yet comfortable vibe, making it perfect for both casual meals and special outings. The food was fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented — you can tell there’s real attention to detail in every dish. The staff were welcoming and made the whole visit smooth and enjoyable. ORDERED: 🐟🍟 Pack for two/Twin pack: 2 flakes, 2 dim sims, 2 potato cakes, large chips & 2x 600ml drinks ($39.00) 🍔 Editas burger: battered fish, martin's potato roll & house made tartare ($21.00) đŸŒ Tartare sauce ($3.00) It was $33.00pp between two people. REVIEW: 💖 Editas burger. I asked my friend if the burger was 3x better than a filet-o-fish. I was met with a resounding YES !! Can confirm from the 1 bite I had, the mixture of the toasted potato bun, the refreshing dill-heavy tartare sauce, the crunchiness of the fish & the cheese really was bliss. I would rate this over the Pack for two!! If you're not pressed for funds, this would be my recommended pick. 👍 Pack of two/twin pack. I really developed an appreciation for the batter on the battered fish. It's crispy with great colour and when you bite in, the fish is incredibly tender (instead of dry). It was magical. One of the best battered fishes I've had. đŸ€” Also from the pack: 1. I wasn't a fan of the potato cakes. Although it was crunchy, it retained too much of the oily aftertaste which made my mouth feel ick. 2. Dimsims felt like a bigger... meatball? A little too dry for my liking. 3. Chips had great crunch with a generous amount. However some chips were a bit dry instead of having that glass-shattering crisp, fluffy inside. đŸȘ‘ I appreciate a fish and chips with a dining area, especially when the vibes were on point. Music blasting, good amount of foot traffic. There's limited dining inside with more tables spilling out onto the street.
