While I'm sure staff are doing their best, the Lux experience is an absolute waste of money and I wish I read reviews on here before we booked and paid. Judging from the response to recent feedback, management will respond with the same wishy washy "we're undergoing change/renovation" story. That may be the case but there are some easy fixes in the interim.
Edit: I got the old copy and paste reply that had excuses not fixes. The audacity to charge full price for this run down experience....in this economy? Ugh.
Yes, the furniture is run down, I understand renovations are "imminent" but that does not excuse sticky tables and menus.
After eventually being greeted, there was no one to take out order. Staff were busy and not following any logical process to take orders. We eventually tried to order at the bar.
When we placed our order many menu items were missing. I get it, it's busy but with the release of a blockbuster surely you can anticipate the need to order appropriate stock.
We placed a drinks order to come before the movie, but even though we arrived early they weren't ready. The staff did bring them to us.
We ordered other drinks to come with our mains. These drinks came almost an hour before our mains. Minor inconvenience but the feedback is there.
Oh the mains! Don't order the food. Just don't. The tacos were so strange. I can't figure out if it was a soft or hard shell taco, because it was more like the texture of cardboard. Flavour wise, thank goodness they were drowning in sauce because they were not great. But did I eat them? Yes, because I was so hungry. That's on me. The sliders had bread that had the texture of three day old fridge bread. The patties were small, tasteless and cold.
The dessert was actually decent! So there's a win.
Staff looked stressed. I can't blame them for poor management. They were doing their best and friendly.
Absolutely not worth the $200 we spent on tickets and food. What a dive.
And management, before you respond, think about how you could actually improve instead of fibbing people off with excuses.
Just buy the...
Read moreSo this review is the culmination of maybe 8 visits to Hoyt’s Lux. Upgraded Hoyts seats are much better than the old red peeling ace ones. Cinema is nice but consistently let down but a few things over and over again in their Lux section.
Screen wise: can only comment on cinema 2 in lux. sound is good, but the screen has 8 different blue spots on it that don’t move/change and so are obviously a broken part. Noticed it when I went to see Gladiator 2, and in every movie since. When I went to see the new captain america, the scene went completely black while the sound played on. One man eventually stood up to get a staff member and he had to wait almost 10 minutes at the front desk before anyone noticed him. To their credit, they replayed the parts that were missed but it shouldn’t take that long for service.
Food is good, drinks need big improvement. Ordered a glass of red and a long black coffee while watching Bridget jones: wine glass had smudges all over it and bits of food, long black cup was the same. Both the wine and the coffee were gross. Tonight I watched Black Bag, Iordered an espresso martini and it was so terrible i barely had 2 sips of it before I gave up, which is a total waste of $20.
Service for late movies seems to always be the B team. Was told tonight that my cup of tea would need to be out in the middle rather than the end of the movie since all the staff were rostered to finish at 10:15…..for a movie that didn’t start until 9:40 (after ads)…….very odd choice by management there. Lady that served me was lovely tho so nothing against her, in fact she’s pretty much the only staff member I’ve seen that knows what she’s doing. Apart from tonight, normally whoever is serving seems to be on their first day of training, with basic orders needing to be repeated over and over again. Cinema aircon also seems to always turn off halfway through the movie, and it can get quite hot in there. Average visit for me is around $70-$100 at Lux and it’s really not worth it anymore unless they can sort...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst!!! Since taking over ACE, Hoyts has gone down hill rapidly. First, i brought tickets to the Lux lounge. I signed up to the vip and still ended up paying full price. We got there and ordered our food. When we went to order the drinks we wanted with the complimentary pop corn we were told that they no longer offer complimentary popcorn and drinks. We were told we could get our food and drinks when we wanted so we ordered the cheesy mac balls and a drink for our granddaughter and 3 of the slider meals and a drink for us adults and asked for it as soon as the movie starts, then half way through we wanted pop corn and 2 milkshakes. We waited, and waited. Finally well into the movie they told us there were no cheesy mac balls, so she chose onion rings. 10 minutes later they came yet ours were no where in sight. Then our cool drinks, came along with the 2 milk shakes and the pop corn, but no actual food. My husband went out and asked where it was. The reply was i don’t know. What did you order? Half way through the movie our food finally came. This meant we had to eat quickly and then scoff down the pop corn. Due to all of this i was not able to relax and watch the first half of the movie and ended up missing key points of it. Very, very disappointing. Pay more, get bad service and get less. Will not go back again. I would rather drive to Reading cinema in Belmont from now on. The whole night cost is nearly $400 dollars for 4 tickets, sub standard food and bad service run by 18 year olds with no one watching over them. I even watched one worker handing the bottles of alcohol the a child to pass down to her parents. Wow! Where is the RSA there!? Maybe Hoyts could redeem itself and offer my money back, but i won’t...
