Went to the bottomless brunch at Turquoise Midland yesterday (Sunday) with a friend. It was quite busy and we were excited to get started. Unfortunately, the experience didnāt live up to the almost $90pp (upgraded cocktail experience) price tag.
Cocktail service was incredibly slow. Every drink took 15+ minutes to arrive, which eats into your limited 2 hour session time. I even ordered our next round as soon as the first drinks hit the table and still finished my first (without rushing) before the second round arrived. The fine print on the menu says something along the lines of, āPlease allow reasonable wait time as our cocktails are hand-made,ā which just feels like they already know the service is slow and are pre-justifying it. But for an almost $90 brunch, youād expect better.
To top it off, a waitress spilled a French martini on my (new) jeans while placing the drink down and not paying attention. She apologised and I didnāt make a fuss saying it was okay as I cleaned myself up, but it was very frustrating.
Later, I politely (emphasis on politely, Iām not confrontational at all and always treat service workers well) asked another staff member for a takeaway container and I swear to you, I got an audible SIGH in response while she looked at the remainder of our food. She never brought it, so I asked someone else, who grabbed one instantly from a cabinet literally across from where we were sitting. Just unnecessarily poor service.
We had 5 cocktails each in about 1.5 hours and couldnāt taste a hint of alcohol in any of them, we didnāt feel a thing either. I usually start to feel my drinks after about two, so at over 2x that amount and to feel nothing was disappointing, I seriously couldāve driven home. Even the martini, which is a typically strong drink just tasted like straight pineapple juice.
The food itself was tasty and very generously portioned, but most of it arrived cold. We didnāt have to order it (it was linked to our brunch booking) and it just arrived 20 minutes later. Whilst a 20-minute wait is fine, cold eggs and other (majority) savoury items was pretty off-putting.
Overall, extremely underwhelming for the price. Slow drinks, weak cocktails, cold food and a couple of rude staff interactions. There are much better bottomless brunches in Perth that are cheaper, quicker and way more enjoyable. Iām genuinely still so frustrated we spent nearly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe restaurant was empty when I arrived, we chose to sit at a bigger table as there were 5 of us but the window blind was not fully down and there was quite a draft. We could have moved tables but we didnāt so that our issue.
The staff were really pleasant. Nice to talk to. Doing there best it appeared. Drinks tasted nice once they managed to get the iPad system to order them.
The food was delicious when it eventually arrived BUT and itās a bit one, it took over an hour as the staff advised the order didnāt print out in the kitchen. We were the only table in the restaurant for about 40 minutes waiting for our food:
When some of the food came out we were excited but 2 of my party had to wait for the second dishes they ordered which sort of defeats the purpose of ordering them together.
My friend had a very difficult time with the prawns as they came completely enclosed in their shell, Iāve never seen prawns served this way. At a maximum Iāve seen tail on but these were fully unshelled. Very strange, very messy for them to eat and also no finger bowl.
The mexi platter was very nice value and good tasting food :
We did get an explanation when we asked at the 1 hour mark where the food was and were assured there would be a discount at the end. There was no discount. Pretty poor on that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were the first ones in at 8 a.m. Not many people around, probably only three tables occupied. The staff, who seemed to be the manager, welcomed us with a "meh" attitude and then seated us in a very awkward spot where direct sunlight hit us. We were okay with it and decided to give it a chance. However, once we sat down, it did feel hot sitting right behind the plastic transparent covers. I asked the same staff member to move us to another table, as not all of them were reserved. She replied, 'I'll just turn the air conditioning on.' Again, we gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking she might have been having a bad morning.
She then went around with her iPad, taking orders, and when she reached our table, she instructed us to either order at the counter or scan the appāwithout any expression on her face. We watched her interact with other customers and noticed she treated us differently. We realized we were the only ones of a different color, and that might explain the attitude from the moment we walked in. Unfortunately, we had already ordered, or we would have just left and gone next door to Coffee Club or Dome.
The food was okay, nothing special. A bit pricey for what it was. You could get the same meal at Coffee Club or Dome for a cheaper priceāand with maybe...
