Well, isn't this place just a little treasure! Set in an older building, with quirky decor - accordions on display and tables featuring pyrography to name just two features.
My wife and I have dined here prior, a few years ago during a rough time for hospitality we all know about. That visit, I saw a social media post essentially asking for visitors to help keep the doors open, so we went here. Good experience. Still the same doors if anyone is interested (one operated by a counterweighted pulley)
This time - visiting with good friends and their kids - full house (pleased we booked in advance). Both dine in and take away. It was busy. That means you're doing something right in the world of hospitality at the moment.
An extensive menu at breakfast is generally a red flag, but it largely consists of variations (primarily sweet and savoury pancakes). My wife had the Egg Benedict waffles whilst I had the Amsterdam Breakfast. Without frikandels - they were fresh out this morning and apologised. I left it up to the kitchen to substitute, it appears onion rings made their way in as a replacement.
A double espresso needs to be served in a glass more often in my opinion. My wife enjoyed her hot chocolate (we both had refills). Given how busy the service was, the wait time was extremely reasonable. The only (minor) constructive criticisms that I have is that my pancake was a little overdone in the middle, and my eggs were overcooked for my liking. Perhaps an option on the menu for egg doneness could be a thing?
At this price point, a great option for breakfast in the...
Read moreBeen there twice. First time was amazing, had savoury pancake and Belgian waffle stack. Was yummmmm and was cozy Went back on the weekend, wasn't so great. We were asked to move to another table. There was no one in the Cafe and the weather was cool so wanted the sun that was streaming in through the door to land on our backs. Why move customers when the place is empty. Ordered a baffle (waffle burger) It wasn't great. Tasteless rubbish......especially since the beef patty was the cheap home brand frozen ones that you buy from Woolies. Was very disappointed. My partner ordered waffles with bacon. $20 for this. Wasn't great either The menu had changed since our first visit a month ago. Was very disappointed with the food and the service. Won't be back. Shame, could have...
Read moreTried the food here, and the two downers were that the waiter (male) basically threw the food on the table as if it were inconvenient to him, and quite pricey! $46.95 for 4 toast, 4 palm-sized bacon, 4 eggs, 2 sausages, 6 bite-sized hash brown, 4 onion rings. Probably only $10 to buy all those things for brekky.
Ordered an orange juice but had to get it from the fridge ourselves, as the waiter forgot about it. Coffee served without anything to stir a sugar in it, no salt and pepper on the table, had to get serviettes from other vacant table.
Not good. Better options out there. Chef did cook well though, let down by front-of-house and...
