My elderly grandfather visited this supermarket last Tuesday on his own, he had been a longtime customer of Tong Li Chatswood in the 7 years he's lived here. He had an episode of forgetfulness and accidentally took one packet of instant noodles (one packet!!) out of the store with him, forgetting to pay for it. The manager or staff in charge at the time detained him and threatened to fine him, took photos of him to circulate around the stores, and banned him from entering any Tong Li store in future.
My grandpa is in his 90s and has had a rough time recently with my grandmother's stroke and mental decline, plus the effects of the COVID lockdowns. He's been depressed ever since she was sent to a nursing home, he had lost his partner of 70+ years, we've been encouraging him to still carry on with his daily routine, go to the shops and take walks around Chatswood to lift his mood.
I'm extremely disappointed and upset at the way Tong Li's staff handled the whole situation, insisting on calling my grandpa and liar and thief, and spreading his photos around internally to ban him from the store. My family came to explain the whole situation but the staff refused to believe that my 90 year old grandfather might have ACCIDENTALLY taken the noodles, they forced us to pay the fine (no receipt was given), and behaved in a disgusting way with no sense of basic empathy or kindness, or just human decency for understanding that elderly people make these mistakes sometimes. Is this any way to treat your customers?
My grandpa was left so shaken by this whole ordeal, being forced to have his photo taken by the staff and treated like a criminal, he was left visibly affected for days and is too scared to go back to the shopping centre. I hope nothing like this ever happens to any other customers in the future, and that Tong Li's management looks into this incident as a grave failure of their staff to treat others (especially the elderly) with kindness and give people the benefit...
Read moreUsually enjoy my shopping experience here but they really need to organise their stocks. Went to buy a cold drink from fridge, they had mini hot kid milk and chocolate milk placed separately on the fridge ( they also had the 3 packs for 3$ in the shelf not fridge, the ones on the fridge was not in a pack) I went to buy it at the counter and was accused of opening the 3 pack because I only wanted one. I even told them to check the fridge as it was quite literally filled with atleast 10-20 individual mini hot kid milk. Ended up wasting 4 min on line and 2 min getting accused. Left the store...
Read moreTheir prices of the goods are average, there are no discount card and most of the special discount items will almost expire. The management is poor. The cashier staffS has no courtesy. The waiting distance of 1.5 meters during the pandemic made the management worse. Someone who have not queued or push in line, They don’t care even they see it. I often buy things in this store because the location is good,, so I won’t buy a lot of goods, only a small amount. I strongly recommend that they need to improve their management. The attitude of the front desk staffs are an...
