This place is amazing, there is no other way to describe it, and the few negative comments I've seen are related to parking and being crowded.
It's true that there is somehow limited pay parking at the front, but at the back there is plenty of free parking and you only need to walk a few more metres. I'm disabled and I walk with a cane, and yet I don't have any issue walking a hundred metres or less to reach this fantastic pool.
Also, on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday you can use the free parking that during the week is reserved for the council's workers, adding several dozens spaces when needed.
As for being crowded, I don't want to be rude, but if you want a pool for yourself build one in your backyard. Even on Summer weekends is never too crowded in my opinion, but I'm originally from Europe and we give to that word a different meaning... :)
Recently the council added a few shades that would be appreciated by people looking to spend the day in Summer, a few more seats would be great but at this entry price (it's free!) it's OK.
The lifeguards are always attentive, yes, sometime maybe a little bit too much but when you have so many kids in a potentially dangerous environment it's a given (former lifeguard here).
The pelicans are ugly and kitsch, but they are a hit with all the kids who really love them. They'll grow on you.
Bottom line? I've traveled to many countries, and this is the best free public pool I've ever seen, a short walk from all the cafes and restaurants and most...
ย ย ย Read moreVisited on Easter Saturday. With an Nor-east wind blowing. Pool was cool and looked clean, beach style entrance on one side with disabled ramp also, good depth towards the middle of the pool. Life guards on duty, and they looked alert and ready. Grass around pool is clean cut and tidy, lovely to sit on. Food and drinks available pool side I think, can't comment didn't purchase any. Parking is ample, we parked at the bottom near the play park and walked up. The only reason I gave 4 stars is lack of shade around the venue and a little lacking in the kids department. Small splash pool is a bit sad in comparison to the large pool, but that said there is an additional water park heading north up the esplanade that caters for that. Personally, with a shade, you could stay there all day as an adult, kids how ever may find boredom sets in long before the parents want to leave. There is one other thing that I feel I should mention, there wasn't a large amount of seating from which you could observe the kids in the pool. Not a huge problem if your in the pool with them, but something to consider if you are a multiple kid family, with one or two not in the pool, and a a couple in the pool. Haven't been to Yeppoon in a long time and I commend the council on the effort that has been made to make the town more of a destination, than...
ย ย ย Read moreMy review is one star because of an older life guard โPeter Daleโ who seemed on a power trip that ruined our day. Our 2 year old was in a small inflatable ring swimming aid and we were told she was not allowed to use it because of the rules set by council. There is an exception listed for toddler swimming aids however his interpretation was it must have a seat and the small ring was at risk of running over someoneโs head preventing them from surfacing. It is not as it is tiny. The ring is about 40 cm side to side and the inflated ring stands about 10cm round to fit a 2 year old waist. There were kids throwing footballs jumping in etc which posed more risk that he was not concerned with. We had been swimming for at least 30 minutes prior with no other lifeguards objecting. It honestly ruined our day visiting the lagoon and left soon after as our daughter couldnโt continue swimming with her siblings. I do understand if it was a safety risk to other patrons or our child but is not, and has been used at many other swimming locations as we travel around Australia. Common sense seemed to have gone awry in place of a person keen to assert...
