After about a year of being associated with the school , I have nothing but stellar things to say about the language opportunities, volunteering opportunities, and overall positive experiences that I’ve had with the people who work at or are associated with one of the programs at the school . The teachers at this school are top notch , with a majority of them going above and beyond to add adicional material to an already extremely effective and structured program . The extra curricular activities are always fun , and you always meet a ton of talented people across the world. I have made friends for a lifetime through the school . Every part of the staff is extremely friendly , and will go out of their way to help you and ensure you’re taken care of . As one of the English teachers for the volunteer program, it’s hard to find a better opportunity to give back to the community. This city will give you so much while you’re here , so it’s a fun, effective way to give back to to the amazing people of Rio . I did a bunch of analysis between the language institutions in the city before I joined Caminhos , and the experience here will not come close to the other schools . It will be far better . I was able to successfully enter and complete my first full semester of my masters program in Portuguese at one of the local universities after 4 months of daily language training (during the work week) with the school . I’ve been able to travel across South America visiting friends (and their families ) that I’ve made through the school already . It will still take a lot of effort to learn Portuguese and develop friendships at this school , don’t get me wrong , but this school will give you the best opportunity to accomplish your goals and have fun at...
Read moreI had an amazing time at Caminhos. Each and every member of their staff, every teacher, and even the peripheral Caminhos community was friendly, inclusive, and cared deeply about my success in Brazil and with the Portuguese language.
I purchased the 6-month student visa package and would highly recommend this for anyone who wants personal support in a long-term stay in Rio. I told the reception staff I needed a student visa in less than two months, and they got the necessary documents to me in the same day. They were knowledgable and able to answer every little question I had about getting there and staying with a visa.
I chose the host-family accommodation, and the staff that arranged that were perfectly helpful as well. My housing went beyond my expectations and was just what I needed - the staff made sure that this continued to be the case during my 4-month stay.
The Portuguese classes, the teachers, the material, and the dynamic range of activities all made going to school a fulfilling and positive experience. I went 5 days a week for 16 weeks and never once felt I was wasting my time or money. Over the course of my time there, I became more and more comfortable with the language - I went from level 0 to being able to make Brazilian friends in Portuguese - and I can only thank Caminhos' wonderful staff!!
I highly recommend Caminhos to every type of foreigner wanting to learn Portuguese and have an immersive, well-rounded time in Rio de...
Read moreCasa do Caminho Language Centre is the ideal place to learn Brazilian Portuguese for all levels and it's definitely one of the best schools to attend in Rio de Janeiro. As you enter the school, you immediately can feel the good ambiance when speaking to the teachers and the volunteers. The teachers have extensive experience and provide you the tools you need to learn the difficult grammar and toning of the language. They also have professional services such as CV translation. The strength of the school lies in the number of activities that accompany the courses including beach volleyball, soccer tournaments Brazilian cinema, Samba courses, outings to mountains such as Sugar Loaf and the Cristo Redentor, among other activities. Therefore, this school is a perfect place to learn and have fun. Furthermore, the fees paid by the students fund-raises an orphanage for adolescents and children from underserved populations in Xerem, Rio de Janeiro. Therefore the income generated in the school goes to the community. When I left this school, I can now say that I have achieved the Advanced Proficiency Level in Brazilian Portuguese and this is thanks to the tools provided by my teacher Marcos, the most experienced teacher at the school. He now only was a great teacher, but also became a great friend. My experience in Casa do Caminho was unforgettable and I encourage anyone to seriously consider this school in their travels to pick-up and/or polish...
