Boxing Day Nightmare
Disclaimer out of the gate: I don't normally leave reviews. Either something extremely amazing or extremely awful has to happen for me to leave a review; so do note that this review is rather passion-filled.
I hadn't been to Tsawwassen Mills in well over 5 years before deciding to come today and peruse the deals. While the mall itself is fine--the stores are layed out cohesively and there's a boat load of shops to choose from--the parking lot was a god damn disaster. From what I observed, it would seem that Tsawwassen Mills only has three or so exits that take you from the parking lot back onto main roads. A mall of Tsawwassen's size should definitely have more than that. Christ-- Highstreet Mall in Abbotsford has more than that with a fraction of both the acreage and foot traffic.
Today, in the festive reminiscence of fistfighting others for a flatscreen tv, they decided it would be a brilliant idea to close off one of those exits to make it entrance only. In doing so, those who parked from door 6 (Sportcheck) to door 4 (Winners)--the long way--were forced to funnel out of one exit with very unhelpful flaggers to guide the path (think, blind leading the blind). I even overheard one of those flaggers complain about the frustrated motorists, saying that we should know that it would be busy on Boxing Day. And while, yes, they're technically correct, it was only so bad because of that blocked exit, and folks trying to leave were stuck in the parking lot crawl for up to an hour!
And look, I understand the need for crowd control, traffic safety, blah blah blah, but was this REALLY the best option? What if there had been some form of an emergency? The person in need would be be shit outta luck.
Do better Tsawwassen.
TLDR; the mall closed off one of the exits, so hundreds of cars were stuck in hour+ long lines to leave the...
Read moreI think the mall has significantly changed to worse under the new management. They are positioning it now as a shopping and entertainment mall, so they installed a few self-serve kiosks selling cotton candy, and a lot of automates where you could win a soft toys, and a huge bouncing castle (with the price around $20 for an hour) at the entrance where it used to be an open space or seasonal decoration. Also, there are a lot of moving staff (ok, stuffy riders were there for a while), but now they added train, dinosaurs, and a lot of bright flashing light cars. So probably the idea is not bad, but when the mall is crowded all this moving flashing stuff creates too much unorganized traffic and noise. But, when it comes to something like organizing “Trick or Treat” for kids for Halloween (what used to be pretty good in this mall in previous years) - they didn’t bother. It was literally nothing what the administration did in 2023. No Halloween decorations, no organized “Trick or Treat”. We came with 2 dressed up toddlers and were hugely disappointed. There only a few stores who actually did trick-o-treat, the largest is “Outdoor World” (they were great, by the way), and 3 small stores in the whole mall. We came to the guest services , and they confirmed that the mall itself is doing nothing for Halloween “may be some stores are doing it”. So yeah, the new owners doesn’t see anything except of their greed. It was way better before, don’t think that we are coming back for this kind of “entertainment”. (The photos attached are our buckets after the whole mall - 6 candies in total for each kid and 3 of them were from “Outdoor World”, and self-made sign from one of the smaller stores (in better times the mall provided participating stores with nice colourful...
