We first came upon this place at their location in the Orchard Park Mall. I was excited to see the homemade Eastern European food, and brought my Eastern European mother and grandmother in to check it out! We made sure to buy perogies and a number of other frozen foods, including cabbage rolls. I make content, and was even shooting some video and preparing to give this place a spotlight in an upcoming travel video I’m making for Kelowna. While there, the owner mentioned it was their 2-year anniversary coming up next Friday and invited us to come. He said there would be “lots of free food and wine!” My mother and grandmother were excited to check it out, so we made our way down to the Bernard location on Friday. I told my mom it would likely only be some small samples, which we found to be the case when we arrived: one sample of a bite of now-cold dumpling in a paper cup. However, we started to see the staff bringing out large samples—bowls of steaming soup, plates of full-sized cabbage rolls, yogurt, and other food—to a number of people who were there. We stood and smiled and they continued to not offer any to us. It felt very awkward. My 92 year-old Ukrainian grandmother rarely goes out and has been excited to check out this spot and try their food. Here is everyone else being given seats and food, and my grandma is like, can I have some food. And all that is there for her is the cold dumpling bite. Finally, I asked the lady at the counter after I purchased my frozen food: is there any hot food we can purchase? She said no, only frozen. It was almost a comedy routine as, while she said that, a woman kept coming out of the back kitchen carrying plates and bowls of hot food to people! Then I asked, is that only for family and friends? She didn’t seem to understand my question. Anyways, it made my mom and grandma feel embarrassed and disappointed. Here we had made a special trip downtown as a family of Ukrainian background, with a 92 year-old and a baby, and once again purchased a number of things and wanting to support this place, only to be disrespected by not even having hot samples offered to us—even after I kindly asked on my mother’s behalf (she had come hungry, expecting the promised food)! Very strange...
Read moreFeb/2025 Homemade quality food. 10/10 The cherry crepes changed my outlook on life in a positive way. The dumplings are like a warm nurturing hug on a cold day. Don’t be deterred by the appearance of the small frozen bag of dumplings, they triple in size when cooked and 5 of them with some veg is a meal for us. Although they are so good you may want to eat the entire bag in one sitting;) Chicken Kiev or blu is a quick 25min in air fryer, and I throw in some veg half way through and that’s dinner done, and so damn tasty. Home made goodness. Perfectly crispy on outside and juicy goodness inside- magical! A light crispy crunch. Cabbage rolls are just the best. I haven’t had anything I didn’t love. Dessert perogies seem to disappear at our home. If you are buying prepared foods at save-on or m and m’s, go here. The quality and taste is way above and the prices comparable. And you’ll be excited to eat this.
Feb/2024We tried the dumplings, pirogies, and cottage cheese pancakes and all were phenomenal, definitely made with love. We will be incorporating into our weekly...
Read moreThis is the best prepared food option Kelowna has to offer. I regret how long it took me to try them. Everything I’ve had has been so amazing - the cabbage rolls, dumplings, perogies, meatballs, but also things I’ve never heard of before, like stuffed packets of mushrooms or sauerkraut that you fry or bake, little stuffed buns. And their sauerkraut is sooooo good. I’ve hosted two large dinner parties where I’ve served Ready 2 Cook food and spent less than $100 to feed 6-7 people, and regularly include their staples like meatballs and dumplings as part of a regular weeknight meal. Including cabbage rolls as part of our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners is now a regular thing because it’s so easy to just grab a package of frozen rolls and heat them up with some Rao’s at home. The District mall location is my favourite because it’s so quiet and easy to get to, but the Orchard Park location is super convenient if you’re...
