Curry Chicken: $19 I wanted to have Jamaican food and have a great experience to turn me on, but not sure if this is the place that would give me that. Service: There was none. There's 3 staff on and all talking with each other. We sat down, thinking they'd bring a menu but a gal said you go read it off the wall. 1' x 2' big. That's ok but no one tells you right away. It's more for me a takeout place. No free water, you pay. Food comes in a takeout styrofoam container with a plastic fork. They bo there's 2 of us but we had to ask for a second fork to share it together, with germs/saliva, from maybe one of us, Not at all hygienic. They didn't offer a second plastic styrofoam so we could split it. We had to ask for it, as there's 2 of us sitting together. He brings a bowl container, but we wanted to leave so I asked for a lid. Not one person asked us if we needed anything or if everything was ok at our table while we were eating. Tacky. All still talking. 😔 Foid: For me, it was basic. Lots of rice/beans, which was good. The chicken tasted ok but there wasn't much of it as more bones to work around. Stir fry section was bland. Atmosphere: Looks like they have a party night with big speakers, maybe that would be cool to see what that's all about, but not going back. Place not organized.
Overall a 2-star for us. Is more of a takeout place for me. Disappointed! I'll go try another Jamaican restaurant in town. Sorry owners, but we expected more. You're too busy talking and not paying attention to two customers....
Read moreFrom the moment I walked into "the house of the Caribbean" restaurant, I could tell I was in for a treat. The decor and atmosphere were inviting and set the tone for a memorable dining experience. I quickly scanned the menu and decided to order the jerk chicken with rice and beans, cabbage, and of course, more jerk chicken.
When my order arrived, I was blown away by the aroma and presentation of the dish. The rice and beans were cooked to perfection, and the cabbage was crisp and fresh. But the real star of the show was the jerk chicken. I could immediately taste the bold and spicy flavors that are so characteristic of authentic Jamaican jerk chicken. The meat was tender and juicy, and the seasoning had penetrated deep into the flesh. It was clear that the chef at "the house of the Caribbean" knew what they were doing when it came to preparing jerk chicken.
Overall, I would highly recommend "the house of the Caribbean" restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Caribbean dining experience. The jerk chicken is a must-try and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. So if you're in Kelowna and craving some Caribbean flavor, head over to "the house of the Caribbean" and get ready for a...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal customer at this Caribbean spot for a while now, and let me start by saying—the food is absolutely fantastic. Their jerk chicken is hands down one of the best-kept secrets in Kelowna. It’s rich in flavor, fresh, and always hits the spot.
That said, I’m writing this with a bit of disappointment. Their pricing recently increased quite a bit. A regular plate used to be $18, and if you wanted to upgrade to a large, it was an extra $2, bringing the total to $20 (plus tax and fees). Now, that same regular plate is $21, and a large is $23.
That’s a 15% increase per plate, and while that might not seem like much to some, it adds up—especially when many people are feeling the pinch from rising costs everywhere.
I understand inflation and the need to stay profitable, but one of the things that made this place special was the feeling that you were getting exceptional food at fair prices. Now, unfortunately, they’re in the same pricing bracket as everyone else.
I’ll still recommend them because the food is that good—but I’ll definitely be reconsidering how often I visit moving forward. Hopefully there’s a way to balance quality and...
