A Total Disappointment – I Don’t Recommend It

My friend and I went to this vegan café because we’re both vegetarians and were excited to try it. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. From the moment we arrived, we tried to be as polite and patient as possible, but the treatment we received didn’t reflect that.

We sat down and waited for 25 minutes without any complaints. During that time, we tried to politely get the waitress’s attention from our table in a discreet and respectful way, but she completely ignored us. Not wanting to bother anyone, we decided to walk over to the counter very kindly, just to ask if we could place our order directly. The response was a blunt “Wait at your table, there are many orders ahead of yours”, which felt odd because there were only three other people in the entire café.

Still keeping calm, we went back to our table and waited another 20 minutes. When it became clear no one was coming, we approached the counter again, remaining as pleasant as possible. The waitress seemed annoyed, and even though we continued to be polite and patient, the response was rude.

When the food finally arrived, it was left without any cutlery and no words were exchanged. There wasn’t even a simple apology for the delay or any kindness at all. By this point, it was clear they didn’t want us there

It’s a shame because the food and coffee were good, and we genuinely wanted to enjoy the experience. But after this, I don’t think we’ll be coming back. If this is your only option because everything else is closed, I’d recommend waiting or finding somewhere else.

We did everything we could to be understanding and polite, but it felt like they just didn’t...

As someone who loves vegan food, and who works only two blocks away, I really wanted to give this establishment a good review. Unfortunately I can’t, as I felt neglected by the staff and disenchanted by the food.

When I arrived at 3:00 pm, I ordered their 1944 burger, which the guy behind the counter said was “hearty” and one of his favourites. I ordered it with a side of fries which cost me over $21.00. He said he’d bring the burger out shortly with water.

After waiting 15 minutes for the water, I went up to the front to ask for it. I then waited another 15 minutes for the burger to come out, and eventually got up to inquire about the wait-time for the burger. I had to get up twice to solicit basic service.

The same person who brought me my water, addressed my concern regarding the half hour wait for the burger. She seemed really nice and wanted to help. After another 5 minutes she came out with something that resembled an anemic McDonald’s burger, and asked if there was anything else I needed. After seeing the burger, what I really needed was my time and my money back. However my reflexive politeness got in my way, and I thanked her for bringing it to me.

In terms of the taste, the fries were those skinny McDonald's-type string fries. I left most of them on the plate. The burger was underwhelming for something that cost 20 bucks. It also didn’t have the stack of sprouts or vegetables that are advertised in photos online. I wish I had taken a photo of it to share!

This experience was really unfortunate. It robbed me of time, money, and enthusiasm for vegan food. I think I’m going to save my money for groceries and make my own vegan food. I’ll probably eat...

Update: The Naked Cafe contacted us and a group of wonderful, friendly and bubbly young ladies personally delivered our order and turned things around. The spread was very impressive and diverse - nothing you would normally get as a catering order. It was quite extensive, delicious and of a high quality. Everyone who visited commented on the spread! I would highly recommend The Naked Cafe to anyone in the area looking for a quality, beautifully organized spread of delicious, healthy sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, crackers and cheeses!

We recently contacted the Naked Cafe 10 days in advance of an event to put in a catering order and were extremely excited to try items from their Handful and Grazing menus! That being said, we unfortunately found the cafe to be unresponsive. We didn't receive order acknowledgement via email after 48 hours and put in a call to follow up as we expected it could have been lost in the shuffle; spoke with the General Manager - Mike, whom indicated he would look for the email and give us a call back to confirm the same day. Unfortunately we did not receive a call so we called back 24 hours later and spoke to a kind lady who mentioned Mike would give us a call - still no call another 24 hours later. Via phone, we shared that we were happy to consider other options if the Naked Cafe was too busy as we know it's a busy time of year and we just wanted to ensure we had a catering order in place for our small event. Sadly, we've still not received contact from the Naked Cafe after 4+ days. I have given two stars as I didn't get the chance to try their fare, so this rating is based purely around...

UPDATE: we just got back from a week in Kelowna and sure enough, I went back to Naked Cafe! They renovated and changed the menu since the last time I visited, so I got to try some new things! I had Seitan's Waffles for breakfast and the seitan chick'n was AMAZING. The seitan had a nice texture, the coating was crispy, the seasoning was perfect. It was really nice to have something different as a breakfast option. I also went for lunch another day and had the Buffalo Ranch Sandwich which was also amazing! I had to have more cupcakes as well, which were still delicious. The place is a lot more open and spacious now since the renovations! I just love this place and I'm sad I have to wait until my next visit to eat here again! Went to Kelowna for 3 days to visit family and I loved this place! The first time we visited was for coffee/hot chocolate and cupcakes and everything was delicious. We enjoyed it so much, we decided to go for brunch the next day. I ordered the harvest wrap with the crispy hash patties and spicy mayo and it was the best vegan breakfast I've ever had! I loved it so much, I ordered it for breakfast the next day too. My boyfriend (who isn't vegan) ordered the pulled pork sandwich (made out of potato), and he said it was very good (of course I had to try it too and I thought it was delicious as well ;) The restaurant is cute and the staff was very friendly. I wish I could have tried more of the menu, but we will definitely be back here the next time we're in Kelowna!

Amazing food, but service was... Chaotic. Maybe we just caught them on a busy day. We put in my drink order right away, but boyfriend needed another minute or two to decide on his drink... then we sat there and waited over forty minutes with server after server passing us and nobody talking to us. Finally I grabbed a server who was super kind and apologized profusely for nobody taking our order. we put our food and remaining drinks order in, he comes back a moment later with complimentary cupcakes and says our food will be on the house today because we waited for so long and it went against their service policy to have us waiting that long. We were super appreciative and happy, had an amazing meal... then a different server (who had been there the whole time, working with the other server) brought us the full bill. Lol. We didn't wanna make a fuss so we paid the bill. All in all, we were there almost two hours, had some amazing food (hula burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had and I've been veg for 12 years!), but we left a little confused by the lack of communication amongst servers. We will definitely be back, but will probably get takeout next time hahaha!

Our first proper vegan meal visiting the lovely city of Kelowna, BC for the VegFest Kelowna event the next day. It was our pleasure to meet so many amazing people at their weekly meetup (every Saturday after 5pm .. attendees receive 20% off food items). Most everyone at that meetup were dedicated VegFest volunteers, giving of their time and energy to contribute to making the event a great success. We are admittedly, but lowly groupies .. just following and attending the event at all three of their showings in the BC area this year (Nanaimo, Victoria (which I still have to post pictures of ...) and now Kelowna (which I'll also have to post pictures of lol) The dishes we had at Naked Cafe were spectacular, and I don't use that word lightly, with an incredible amount of flavor and depth in in every bite! They also have an incredible variety of items, brunch, dinner, lattes, adult beverages, pizza, and so much more! Whenever you make it out to Kelowna, the Naked Cafe needs to be on your list of top places to visit.
